If so is their a place where beta versions of either one have been released?
-
A.) Wrong forum
B.) They aren't dead, they'll be done when they're finished.
-
I understand long development times... but TVW hasn't had an update since 2004 and Starfox no longer has a site. And sorry for the wrong forum a mod can move it if you want.
-
Is Starfox Shadows of Lylat...dead?
 Far from it. AFAIK, they're making use of the most new features of any campaign or mod.
-
Really because their Game Warden hosted site is down. Could someone point me in the direction of the new one?
-
Here's their forum. (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=16) They were saying they're doing a Mario mod instead of a Starfox one on April Fools'.
-
No project here is ever dead unless announced as such (to my knowledge, anyway). They can just take an awfully, AWFULLY long time. Example: Inferno = 3 years from release 1, and nothing new. Not that that bothers me, I'm a patient man.
EDIT: BTW, Lockage/movage, anyone?
-
TVWP is on hold as far as I know, so that the modders can catch up with work on other projects :)
That or it's merely pining for the fjords ;)
-
One of the major problems is understaffing, many project members work on sevral, so it's more efficient sometimes to focus on getting one out the door earlier. TVWP is an example of this.
-
I know all the difficulties modders face... it was just a question. I am also a patient man, but websites dying seems to be a bad sign.

[rant]Well, then HLP should do a training program. Post 'if you volenteer, we will teach you' in the several different sections; MODing,FREDing, texturing,CODing whatever else you guys have out there. Then the people that volenteer to learn, and be comitted to it, will work on their spare time with a (one, or more if wanted) experianced person of that skill, willing to teach them. And over time you have a whole second shift of people who know the skill('s). See, HLP has a good portion who have great skill, but not enough effort is being made to train the people who dont know how and want to. I, for one, would like to learn FREDing and MODing myself; but cannot with my current computer system. Once i get my own, id learn in a heartbeat.
Comments, questions, constructive criticism?[/rant]

Not so, you could ask plenty of people that would be glad to help with modeling programs and to help teach you how to use them, me included. But, the fact is no one hardly ever pms us, why because people don't want to learn.
As with most games today, people don't want to learn something they have to try to learn. They want something like most FPS that you can just start up and play. And that is why Flight Sims and such have fallen out of market.
Most people who try to learn to model, find out that it is not as easy as 1-2-3, and quit. And the ones that do ask for your help, disappear after you give it to them. So, this is their problem, not ours.
-
Not to mention the fact theres also the problem of getting the models working in-game, lodded etc, this is as much an art-form as it is a procedure, a good modder can look at a model and spot errors easily, but that only comes from hours of poring over other models that didn't work and learning their pitfalls.
Since Mikhael left, I don't think anyone here other than me uses Lightwave anyway :(
-
Well, atleast I thought it was a good idea. Regardless, you two are probably right. Good points.
-
Yeah, SoL's still alive and kicking. The site's down because I wanted to put up a new one but only got around to taking the old one down. :nervous:
-
Since Mikhael left
Where did he go? Will he come back?
(Sorry, this is OT, but I am curious)
-
An apprenticeship thing does sound kinda cool ;)

Do you have any idea how much bloody time this would take? Alongside existing modding work, no less. Some of us have jobs and/or uni work to worry about here.
Not to mention, it's all out there anyways if you want to learn. Nobody taught me. Nobody needed to teach me. If there's anyone moaning 'oh, I'd do this and this if only someone would teach me' - get off your fat arse, go onto your search engine of choice, and look it up.
I'm sorry, but it pisses me off when people blame other people for this, when it's an entirely and actually rather easily self-taught set of skills.

Ditto at Mikhael.

OMG SoL is dead! :shaking:
Wait... SoL is the most active mod I know of. We do have some big plans and I'm sure many people would tell us we're doomed to fail. So we don't tell anybody about it now. Some ideas are in the game already. We got only one mission yet (and a few multiplayer missions), but once we're finally done with the general content, the FREDing will speed up and we'll need more FREDers. ATM our FREDers (that means: Axem) wait for some models to be created or converted, till more missions can be FREDed.
You should visit the SoL board in the next time. In one or two weeks we should be done with something big. ;)
-
I can vouch for that too. ;)
SoL is probably going to be the biggest thing since The Babylon Project or sliced bread one day. :D
