I have a
7600 GT
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
2 gigs of DDR ram (1 gig functioning in dual channel)
Xpress 200 Mobo
120 Gigabyte Caviar Hardrive
This is a relatively high end system, but Ferrium will be state of the art right? Will I be able to handle it maxed out?
-
That's probably not an issue for the next several years...
-
Also, this should eb in the ferrium forum.
-
The Ferrium forum appears to have dissapeared at least when I tried to accses it form Hardlights main page.
-
Right here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,98.0.html).
-
Ferrium is, as far as I know, dead. Kazaqn got sucked into Everquest or summat.
-
I got sucked into that once... took years to escape. Thankfully it wasn't so bad as to cause me to lose my job or anything... just lots sleep :p
-
it's a shame, it would have been pretty cool if it wasn't abandoned. :D

Hate to say it, but I was fully expecting that to happen back when it was started up. Far less ambitious projects have died around here.

yeah - I couldn't keep other people working on it so i said **** it.
it became redunant anyway - SCP has shown sufficient knowledge of the engine to be able to overcome the issues that it was to address.

Sooo..... everyone who joined up either took the huff or argued with you, resulting in the entire staff either leaving/ being banned for insolence, and then you realised you'd both misjudged the difficulty/temporality of what you intended and had underestimated the ability of the SCP coders to implement new features in the existing SCP codebase?

nice presumptious tripe

nice presumptious tripe
Is that a denial? Cos, y'know, it was followed by a question mark and all that, so you could be nice and adult and mature et al and say 'no, stop being daft you little wippersnapper' or some similar curmudgeonly exuberant variety of verbosity..

That's why I got kicked out :p

or you could stop pretending that what you said wasn't meant as a personal attack.
[edit]
UT was the only person booted from the team - though I don't remember what it was for at this point.

Pretending? I love annoying you, it cheers me up enormously when you take the huff like this rather than, I dunno, brushing it off with a self deprecating and humerous remark. I've missed it from the HL forum, I really have. Christ, why would I even care about whether or not you took it as a personal jab?
Anyway, carry on.

Kazan, IIRC it was for something really stupid, like...disagreeing with you on something.
-
no i think you were incessantly causing flamewars in the internal forum by refusing to drop a subject that every single other person on the team opposed you on.

Wait will there be any graphic upgrades for SCP? I mean wasn't that the point of Ferrium?

Well there are graphic upgrades but it's worth noting that with anything, SCP or hypothetical brand new engine, yer main issue is going to be getting that high fidelity content there. Particularly with higher poly models and higher res maps; IIRC the main purpose of Ferrium was not so much graphical as gameplay (although a big part would have been, I believe, a lot more modding flexibility in all forms), such as proper support for newtonian physics or intersystem travel. This is, of course, going by my half remembered recollections.
-
yeah basically most of Ferrium's purpose was greater flexibility of gameplay - the main SCP seems to be knocking down the barriers to this better than I expected so Ferrium was redundant anyway.
-
So I guess however you look at it, Baranec wins.
-
no, the SCP wins
