Wow. Imagine that. FreeSpace 3. You know, if the story for FreeSpace 3 is that the GTVA wins the Shivans this time, its going to be like Star Wars. Win, lose then win again.

Then maybe they could do the prequel to FreeSpace which cronicles the events that led to the Terran-Vasudan War.

Or you haven't read Plasma's article about little Timmy's trip to Volition.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)  Only it was Pepsi prison in that one...I only said sprite because this is a different forum.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

 (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif) &  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/confused.gif)

If that is the real story/idea of what Volition wanted for FS3, then it could very well cancel out all my ideas for my campaign.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

But I want to know so much more of the story, because I too had the Shivans in war with someone else.
Now I just wonder if I should give up on the campaign, and just post in a story-form my ideas about the Shivans, Bosch, etc.

Joe.

I do remember his dad though from the VWBB, a while ago.

Besides, a potential plot for FS3 doesn't mean all that much...

Unless it comes officially from    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif), it's not canon (justifying my storyline    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) ).  Besides which, most campaigns would involve some sort of deep-ops in Shivan space.

Nicely, it sort of fits into the Reciprocity storyline 'Arc'.

call me nuts...but to break into the game industry these days you have to do a helluva good showreel.  I read the thread a few hours ago but i dun reckon his "dad" whoever he is was quite cut out for the job.

Perhaps it won't be unmentionable anymore!

You seem to be the only one "offended" by FS3 in this thread!

Very True, but I doubt he'd go to all the trouble... even 'threatening' us to ask Volition personnel if it's true or not.

I think he's for real!

Hi, folks. First time here. Nice place.

My son Tim posted information about my interview at Volition over on the VBB, along with information about what some of the Volition people felt about the prospects for FS3, and what they had planned for it. He's also put up some of the work I did for a defunct campaign about a year ago at
 http://faculty.concord.edu/manzione/ ("http://faculty.concord.edu/manzione/")

You're all welcome to look at it, and if it provides inspiration for anyone who is working on an FS2 campaign, by all means, feel free. It was interesting over on the VBB to see people "check out" the material and compare it to their own. If it makes you more confident, great!

(BTW, I do remember you, too, Shrike. My handle was Ascraeus, and for some reason I'm still listed over there at the BEL site. Tim pretty much told the truth about what happened. It was disappointing.)

I don't know whether it's important to convince anyone that my interview took actually took place. I didn't know Tim was going to write about it, and I'm not sure what the protocol is among Volition regarding the confidentiality of interviews. I suspect Philip Holt and Jason Scott aren't going to talk about it, and rightly so. Tim probably shouldn't have revealed some things, but he's nine years old and he recently finished FS2 and is excited about it, so it's probably fine. If it isn't, Philip and Jason, my apologies to you.

In terms of my "showreel," it's a bit different on the writing end of things than it is for programmers, artists, etc. Few game developers have actually hired professional writers up until this point -- Volition is an exception, and that was one of the reasons why I considered giving up a career in academe to work for them. I worked as a journalist for a few years, and I've published a dozen short stories, four poems, and a novel in the fiction biz. I've also published three books on foreign affairs, technology and science, and military history, through several well-known university presses, along with almost a dozen journal articles, three of which have won awards. I like games, and I've been playing them since "Starflight" in 1985. I believe that sometime in this century , virtual reality and games with complex plots will largely replace novels and film as the predominant form of literature.

That was my "showreel." However, the person that Volition hired had several well-regarded novels, and was working in the publishing and media industry. They made a good choice when they hired her, I think.

I'd be interested in talking to anyone about developing some ideas further, although I'd like to be serious about it. Even though I may be a "crazy old man," I can get along with nearly anybody. My only requisite is that Tim's my helper.

Thanks for letting me introduce myself.

JM "Ascaeus"

Hmmm... At this point I don't know why it matters whether the interview happened or not, and I don't see why anyone would think people would go to all the effort to make up an interview anyway- this is good stuff, it's not worshipable   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) canon   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif), it can provide a base for campaigns, fanfic, etc. to those interested. Welcome to HLP!

Oh yeah- what timeframe is this plot supposed to be in, BTW? Some parts suggest that it occurs almost right after the Capella invasion, while the whole jump gate thing was supposed to take 20+ years, and much of it clearly appears to be a while after the war... Oog, I've read the fic too many times.

Heh - interesting how this plotline fits in perfectly with the behind-the-FS2-scenes plot of my campaign... SOC: Operation Otara - Shivans fighting a larger war and all. I'll have to make heavy use of this...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
