I was playing the Babylon Project demo yesterday and I realised my STarfury was always running out of primary gun energy.
Why the high energy requirements for the pulse cannon???

Here's a tip... Since you don't need shield energy just dump it into your other systems (via the End key to do so evenly (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)) then pump your engines energy once and you'll find yourself with a much longer lasting (nearly infinite) weapons energy bank (Not to mention a slight speed boost (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)).
-
Uh, when a fighter doesn't have shields, it doesn't have a why to shunt power from the shields. It's done automatically.
------------------
Visit Warpstorm. ("http://www.warpstorm.com") Do it now.
---------
I know there is a method, but all I see is madness.
-
well then transfer the extra power in the engines to the guns.

I see. But wouldn't that be something like cheating? If a fighter doesn't have shields, there shouldn't be a Shield Bar on the HUD. I think in FRED2, if you disable shields for a fighter, FRED2 automatically removes the Shield Bar.
I think the staff of Babylon Project overlooked this point.

No they didn't, theres specifically some shielding on the Starfuries to make it slightly easier to play, guns and missiles will punch straight through it but it'll protect slightly against collisions.

Haven't noticed it had some shields also when i collide. I rammed a nail at max the starfury could and no effect (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I see. I actually never noticed the shielding on a Starfury. I always thought Starfuries were unshielded fighters of the Earth Alliance. That was why I thought of Starfuries as fragile fighters.

StarFuries have no shields in the show. The TBP have shields to protect from collisions and shockwaves. Since they are still there, the shield bar is still there and so power is not shunted from it automatically.

Now I have to shun all shield power to guns to keep myself from running out of primary cannon power.
And I hate those Nials. They are so fast and are better shielded.

Oh yeah, they made the shields transparent so as not to interfere to much with the feel of the game.
-
Then what about the Nials? They have shields but the shields don't light up.

Yeah, those too.
Besides, the Starfury is SUPPOSED to be like that. They get a few shots off, then recharge, then shoot again. It's the B5 way of things.

That isn't quite correct. If you've ever seen the B5 movie depicting the Earth/Minbari war (can't remember the name of it right now...) they do sort of have shields. It's called a defense grid and it consists of a series of small pulse guns used to intercept incoming fire. The big ships are supposed to have them too.
Of course in the show they are about as useful as the shields on an X-wing during a movie (i.e. you never see them actually do anything).
-
the model doesn't have a sheild mesh, though in the tables there is are 10 points of shields, I guess this is to stop shock waves

shields work even w/o shield meshes?
-
Try increasing the value and see what happens.
-
meshless shields protect against shockwaves only

Which is a good thing too. Shieldless fighters in FreeSpace 2 get destroyed immediately from a shockwave.
But I didn't know the weapons on the Satrfuries need to recharge. In the show, they just fire off round after round after round......
Also, the weapons selection screen for the Babylon Project is not done yet is it? I clicked on Ship Selection and FreeSpace 2 crashed.

The Capships do have them, and you see them firing...
I'm guessing you're basing this statement on when Sinclair's fighter gets hit and it says "Defence grid at zero". Apart from this one source, I have never seen or heard anything else about it...
Oh, and it doesn't class as a shield (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

I got a great idea for replicating the defense grid in the Babylon Project.
In the show, capital ships fire energy projectiles at each other and the other capital ship can negate it by firing a energy bolt to intercept the energy bolt before it actually hits the hull of the capital ship.

Instead of shields (or "defence grid") why not just increase the armour of the fighters or reduce the blast effect of the shockwaves?
Not comlaining, just trying to make a suggestion.

or why truying to change things? they're perfect this way, leave the shields alone.

I want defense grids!!!!

That is the source I'm referencing (and it says "defense grid down"not ...at zero)
But that isn't my only source. I also read something about them in the B5 RPG, but I'm not sure how 'cannon' it is (it's also in the B5 conversion for 'Full Thrust', still not sure if it's cannon)
and no it isn't an energy shield, but it essentially does the same thing, it intercepts and destroys an attack before it can impact the hull of the ship.

I've really gotta find an ep of B5 to watch sometime (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

due to a largely unknown bug in the engine, if you edit a ships shockwave in the editor, the explosions no longer propogate when the ship explodes...

Is it a plane?
NO!!! Its a Hyperkinetic Rabbity thing!!!

WHat does propogate through ship mean?

it means it'll have a bunch of smaller explosions all around it and then break in two, as upposed to just popping like fighters do.
-
Has anyone tried propogating explosions on fighters and bombers???
