*sigh* i tried almost everything... but launcher just hates me....
i have the most recent one(5.3).... i have got the 3.6.7 thingie (i suck at names of stuff)
the thing is that when i open launcher it gives me a message box that says: "fatal error: failed EnumAdapterModes in UpdateAntialiasList"
i have no idea what the hell that means, and i get it too when i browse for the fs2_open.exe file.... and when i press run, the screen flashes black, then gets me back to desktop.....
i already googled for it, and all i got was one entry that lead me to a 404 error ;__;
sorry for wasting your time, thanks in advance

This forum is here for the sake of wasting time as enjoyably as possible, don't worry. What are your system specifications?
-
You could try Launcher 5.2 (linky (http://users.tkk.fi/~lmiettun/misc/Launcher_5-2.exe)). Though I'm not sure whether it would help or not. :nervous:
Then you could try a more recent build of course. Are you using the basic 3.6.7 build or, for example, P4/AMD64 optimized build?
-
hehe, i don't have much of a machine, it's quite old, actually....
700mhz p3, 128 mb RAM
a small hd, and i think i have the worst video memory ever.... just the intell thing that comes with this lame-o compaq pc.... i think it has 4 mb?? i dunno, but i can run the fs2 without any trouble, i haven't got the vp's cuz it said it was "optional" im not sure if that's the reason, but i doubt it....
i don't have any mod and im working with a preinstalled version of the game... so i have just the very basic stuff to make the game work
-
Yeah, I tried running the SCP on a similar system, I'm afraid it just doesn't work, but a computer you can buy for 300$ can actuallly run it fairly well (better if you get a 125$ Radeon 9250 for it.) If you can, I'd get that, or save up longer and get a system that will run SCP a year or five from now.
-
wow, that sounds not very encouraging.... ah well.... i guess i'll try some more crazy stuff till i get to hate my pc or something
edit: i kinda managed to make it run under open gl... but since my pc stinks, i got ugly colours and when in mission, i can't see anything, but the shots and the engines from other ships.... so i think im rather screwd.....
*sigh* then i'll go and sulk at the corner till i get money to get a machine capable of nice eyecandy graphics ;___;
-
All is not completely lost. Some of the really old SCP builds before the HTL builds may run for you. You won't be able to see the new models etc but it should allow you to use glowmaps etc
Only thing is I can't remember when HTL was added. Cause you want the build and VPs from before that.
-
The VPs from that early on aren't available on the internet, to my knowledge. I do have them archived, though.
Just FYI, if you want a fast, cheap card that supports HT&L, the mx440 is probably your best bet. If you're comfortable with installing the card yourself, and know what PCI and AGP ports are. If you aren't or don't know, turn back now...Also, _do not_ pay more than $40 toal for these cards. They are on the 'very low' end of cards right now, and for about $150 you can get a very good midrange card, the 6600GT, that will support all modern games.
However, to get a 6600GT to work at full capacity, you'll need to basically upgrade your computer.
-
It's probably better to pay 400 bucks for a crappy dell, even the crappiest ones out now are 2 Ghz range P4's with 256 Main Ram and a halfway decent AGP card.
I wouldn't bother upgrading that machine, but if you decide to you need a PCI card (or AGP if you have it which you may not) like WMCoolmon suggested... and at least 256 Megabytes of main RAM, IMO.

NOOOOO! dont get a dell, your asking for the worst piece of **** for gamming! And the crappiest dells have 8 MB video cards btw just to let you know. :p

Build your own, then you can carfully control the factors you care about.

Uh, building your own is probably not the highest priority of someone trying to run freespace on a 700 Mhz PIII with 128 MB of ram in 2006.
You're right tho, the cheapest dells don't come with decent graphics cards, my bad.
I guess the cheapest route for you is to get a decent 3dcard and a memory upgrade.
-
Does your computer have any kind of AGP slot? Even AGP 2X is better than PCI graphics
-
What happend to everyone's courtesy?
:welcome:
-
haha, thanks everyone... i know i really have to upgrade my pc (more like trowing gasoline on it and buy a new one)
and yeah, i can build my own, and know what those ports are... i think i do have agp, not sure....
3 or 4 years ago i was thiking about upgrading this machine, then i started to think about making a new one... the deal is.... im a college student, and it seems that the curse that says that every college student must be broke applys to me (;__; )
when i get enough time to work, study and play all at the same time, im gonna be able to make a very good pc for me... one day, till then, im stuck without fso ;___;
i might get a cheap card, tho... some of my friends have them and i don't think they are really using them... so yeah... :p
thanks everyone
-
till then, im stuck without fso
well at least im not the only one.

actually they arent, the geforce 7800 and 7900 both run on PCI which is better then AGP. the 7900 just came out and its much better then ati's brand new card.

The 7800/7900 are PCI-E (PCI-Express), not PCI.

lol, sounds like someone has some learning to do about PC hardware :ick:
-
The whole PCI-E confuses me as well, why not just come up with somthing totaly new instead of somthing that is physically the same but electronically completly different?

Because it uses existing PCI concepts; PCI cards can be connected to and use PCI-E with the only changes required being on the physical layer. They key thing being, it may be electronically different, but the software aspect is identical. i.e. PCI software concepts, but over 'express' (faster, different hardware) physical transmission.

having this same problem in 2013 with my new build.
L:5.5g
build: 3.7.0 SSE2
i7 4770k
GTX 780ti
asus mobo
and win8.1
dunno what could cause this?
-
Point 1: This is something you can safely ignore. The Launcher will work just fine, despite that message
Point 2: You can use wxLauncher, which does not have the same issue
Point 3: Do not bump a 7 year old topic. We prefer that stuff like this gets new threads that we can merge later if necessary.

Holy necro, Batman!
