Two things..
1: I KNOW theres a way to disable the hud so you can take them from your cockpit, but I cant find that control (IIRC, its Shift-O or shift-p or something..
2: Is there a way to make FS Open take screenshots and AUTOMATICALLY save them in the folder I choose?
-
1: See miscellaneous section of controls options screen.
2: No. Depending on the build version, screenshots are either stored in the main FS2 directory, the mod directory, or a 'screenshots' directory. In DX these are .bmp files, in OGL they are .tga files. I recommend Irfanview (use google) to convert screenshots to whatever format you like, esp. with its batch conversion feature (File menu).

Alt+Pause to pause the game without the pause box, and then Tab to get rid of the HUD.

How do I read those TGA files in the screenshots folder?

If you have any form of graphics editor beyond paint, it should handle them (IE/Firefox do not natively show tgas, AFAIK). You can also try finding a viewer program.

irfanview also doubles as an image viewer. :)
