FS1 multi player is completly dead, as I never see anyone even try to configure it..
Check out FS2's MP..

FSPort 3 works fine with multiplayer over FS2 Retail through direct IP so long as everyone has the right data. Goober, Raa and I have all played some of those missions.

Well played FSPort3.0 with ShivansTorrentDownload with one friend two weeks ago. Going to play with about 10 people on the 13th. Worked fine. Complains about hacked tables but runs solid.

yea i got freespace 2 n **** but i really want to play fs1 it was my fav even when both were alive and kicking so if anyone has it and wants to play some games message me thnx
