Post by: KappaWing on April 09, 2006, 04:26:26 pm
I'm looking for a straight video file format converter that DOESENT sacrifice quality like DivX does. Specifically i need to convert .wmv to .avi Help please?

i use the alive media converter myself, i think its a professional grade and costs money, but i wouldnt know anything about that now :D

it converted a couple videos pretty much flawlessly, and actually fixed a flaw in one video had that prevented it from playing in most media players.

i never personally had a need to use .wmv. i always use .avi, and i can't remember ever needing to convert something else to .avi. none of the programs i have will do it.

EDIT:
hate to ask, but have you tried google?

ANY conversion from one lossy codec to another will be of inferior quality than encoding from the original source.

That being said, VirtualDub is a great little tool for converting and processing videos.

Yeah, VirtualDub FTW.

It's a piece of piss once you remember that you can't just assume it's going to do something for you.

Yeah I'm using Vdub but it wont open WMV. It says third party software isnt allowed to open .wmv files as they are property of the noble and mighty micro$oft.

Try grabbing an old version of VirtualDub. It used to support WMV, but the author was forced to remove it (the change log should show exactly when support was removed).

I have no idea if the old version can open current WMVs though.
