Until yesterday, I was using a 2004 build of FSO because it was all that worked, now I have a desire to use some of the new features coming in, but I have a problem... -jpgtga causes my copy of FSO to die on the mission load screen. It refuses to load missions. It just hangs on the first set of two dots in the mission load animation (which is annoying, as if I'm in fullscreen, I need to hard reboot to get control back) or suddenly and cleanly CTDs if I'm in windowed mode. No error, no nothing, FS2 is just suddenly closed. Unfortunately, this has been a recurring problem for me - I'm hoping I'm just missing some sort of simple file, but I'm kind of entertaining the possibility that FS2 just doesn't like me?
Not that it probably matters, but Win XP Pro, Radeon 9200 SE, 768mb ram, Athlon XP 2400+.
Oh:
-spec -glow -jpgtga -2d_poof -dualscanlines -ship_choice_3d -snd_preload -window -ambient_factor 85 -fov .39
Cheers if anyone knows how to solve the problem - I've not been able to update my media VPs in yonks.
Bit more detail
- The (jpeg (I think - certainly either jpeg or tga)) splash screen displays fine.
- The mission I'm loading is a blank Ulysees and nothing else.
- Open GL gives me one of those "Freespace 2 has encountered an error and needs to close." "Send" "Don't Send" error boxes rather than just the dead empty hang D3d gives
- Ships (including those with jpg/tga texs) display fine in the tech room

Which build are you trying to use now?
Run a debug build to see if it gives any extra error messages, and then post a copy of your fs.log file too.

I'm trying to use Kara's new one (fs2_open_r_KARA_20060404.exe).
This is the last debug build error I get (the others look irrelevant - probalems with species_defs.tbl and lods missing from explosions)

Fix the problem(s) with ships.tbl (you either have too many primary/secondary weapons or too many detail distance values), or the modular table if there is one, then run the debug build again, using OpenGL this time, and see what happens.
