So now you might have competition later on then from the creator, if I read it right.

Well we'll just have to make sure that our mod is so good that they are forced to do some genre defining stuff on theirs :D

Just make sure you get a release out whilst the interest is high. You don't want to end up a bunch of jonny-come-latelys! ;)

I'm more concerned about keeping the interest in the development team and potential contributers. We are not about to get swayed by the masses to rush a release for temporary fame and glory. But I also understand that a project cant be in perpetual dev. We are still short handed in tehe usual departments UV mapping and dedicated modellers who can follow through. Hopefully the attention can catch the eyes of the skilled ones in both the art and coding departments.

I feel I should apologise, I didn't mean to suggest you should suddenly rethink what you're doing. But as with most mods I'm anxious to see them completed as rapidly as possible so I can enjoy them! :)

Might be a good time to add a little content to the website though. Seems a little, well, empty. Good first impressions never hurt, even if a mod's website really isn't where the action is :) Although still, any less good first impressions would quickly be corrected the moment a visitor hits one of your screenshot threads. After they pick up their jaw from the floor, of course.

Fortunately, from Moore's comments about how the game might proceed, it sounds like more of either an RTS or RPG, so he may be deliberately avoiding doing a space-combat-based game either for the sake of BTRL or distancing himself from the referenced PS2 game.

Sounded distinctly like an MMORPG from the other article I read.  I think it's more likely he'd pick it to do what interest him rather than anything to do with BTRL or the Ps2 (etc) BSG game; I remember quotes that he didn't like space combat all that much and prefers plot type things.  Provided he gets a say in it, of course.

I'm still thinking you would get together a group of players from roughly the same timezone, enough for the Viper complement and maybe gunnery crew of a Battlestar, then have them move through the game together as a unit. (Perhaps twice that, or three times; replacements as it were, but can only field the normal amount in any one combat.) Would be a neat concept.

Just saw this while reading Ars. I was about halfway down the article when I thought, "I've GOT to email them and let them know about the BSG MOD!" Then I got to the end of the article. :p

I hope the Game-warden server didn't hiccup with that sudden ooomph in bandwidth. I've never seen 96 people flood in there as it did 3 days ago. With a fully non-functional website making us look like arses. Urgh.

Anyone out htere wanna take a crack at BSG:BTRL webdesign?

You've got screenshots.  You don't need a website ;)
