This is my latest project in my quest to create my personal flagship. I decided that copying someone elses designs was not for me - I want something original. This is what I have.
I'd like your feedback, thoughts, ideas. It isn't very detailed at the moment but I'd like to keep the poly count low enough to make it usable in Freespace, but still high.

What is it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
I think it lacks those nice spinning radar dishes. I like tje way the Deimos has it's engines placed try to do something similar. Some nice dubbel barreld turrets on the top and bottom. but otherwise it looks prety good (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Thanks (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
As I said - it's not very detailed, I need to add/take stuff away and so on. Right now I'm just looking at the general shape.
And on that note, a dyscription of what it's mean't to be.
The TD Aquila serves as 's personal flagship from which he commands the rest of the 7th fleet. Designed using the most advanced technology available the Aquila can carry twice the number of fighters that it's original (Orion) could. It's advanced weapons systems also enable it to engage multiple warships at any one time. However it's size means that it is clearly out-gunned by Juggernaut class vessels, and for this reason the Aquila is accompanied at all times by various other support craft.
Edit:It's about 5Km long, depending on weps, ignore the bit about being outclassed by jugganauts.

Took you long enough (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
Reminds me of the Warhammer. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

"A destroyer is about to jump in to your position. My God....it's the TD Tequila!"
Cool concept. Looks like an combination of an Orion and...eh...something else.

heh... I'll show you mine if I can finish off the sketch and get me hands on a scanner...
The Bellerophon class Destroyer-
Armament includes:
16 twin hvy. Plasma Cannons
12 twin light rapid fire Plasma Cannons
1 forwards firing heavy torpedo launcher
Hopefully it will be the basic cap-ship class for the good guys in a campaign I have planned for I-war 2 (having given up on Freespace modding), although it kinda depends what's in the SDK when it comes out.
Edit: Woops... knew I forgot something...
That ship looks nice man.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, It's Exactly the same shape for my inteded flagship (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
You have good taste though (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

How many minutes do you plan to spend with the Extrude and Loft functions to finish that? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
-
In terms of design, it looks cool. Some textures might be nice to add.
Claw: The SDK should offer good support for ship modding, and the scripting language, which, from what I hear, is all that the game was built with.

Maybe it is time I started designing my own flagship before I go into the army.

It's much better than using someone elses model (I'm kinda getting into this now).
Any ideas on how it can be improved though guys? I've already got a few ideas and I think it'll turn out fairly well. It was modelled on the Orion but I'm trying to change enough that it's not clear that that was it's origin.
-
Maybe add a radar dish, change the engine design........just to name a few.

I'm already re-concidering changing the engine design, and there are two radar dishes on this thing, just infront of the fighter bay (and possibly two on the bottom as well).
-
What about docking points?? I mean for transports and other smaller capital ships that need to dock with your destroyer? Unless of course if your destroyer has a seperate docking bay big enough to hold a transport.

Thanks for reminding me, It's changed a fair bit (almost completely different) from the design above. I need serious help with the bow though, looking at all the ships I've seen - none seem suitable or re-usable. Any thoughts anyone?

There's nothing wrong with a wide front, this is a spacecraft after all (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

True, but can you give me an example? I don't know wether to go for flat-faced (Deimos/Aeolus/Iceni,Faustus,Hecate), or tapered nose (Roger Young of StarShip Troopers, Fenris class to come extent) or something completely different that I just haven't thought of.

Corkscrew nose (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Anything more constructive?

Inverted wedge?
/\__/\
Like so?

Hmm fair enough, do you think you could do a small 3D illustration of it, and I'm trying to keep the poly count usable in Freespace (god help me...).

Well, the thing that comes to mind right now is the Hyperion Battlecruiser from StarCraft. That was a sweet ship design.

If I had a scanner maybe, I'll see what I can do in Photoshop...
