Title: Breeding a monster (pics)
Post by: Nico on September 21, 2001, 01:30:00 pm
Wevil asked me to help him with high poly models. I don't really have time to help people usually, but hell, I didn't work on any high poly model for a long time now, so I was happy to help, for once. So I'm working on a manticore. Please keep in mind it's a work in progress pic, the mapping is not the final one, and even the modelling part isn't finished. Anyway, I also want to point out that I decided to base my model on the concept pic ( http://www.geocities.com/alpha_quadrant_project/concept.html (//"http://www.geocities.com/alpha_quadrant_project/concept.html")  shivan section, 3rd pic ) , but I'll add things like the 2 fins that are only on the ingame model.
ok, now, the pics:

Now that looks nice. The glowing bits on it are a bit unclear.

Very nice! Might want to play with the glows a little (more of a deep red and less of a white) but it looks Hella Coolâ„¢  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

very smooth

I beleive he's talking about the glow intensity- the FS cutscene versions have a very deep strong red glow about them

Id also recommend replacing the bump maps with geometry - it gives a far cleaner look (specially if you want it on a hangar bay deck  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) )

Necroposting doesn't even come close.  This entire thread predates both you and I as members by almost a year.

It's like the stuff in the suitcase in pulp fiction...nobody knows what it looks like, but everybody wants it badly.

It's nearly a 5 year old post. The building which held the server that hosted the images probably isn't even still there.

Very true. But I don't think there's any point in keeping this open anymore.
