I've been looking for copies on my backup disks. I know I have one somewhere. I just have to find it.
EDIT : Try this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/vpcs2.rar) and tell me if it works. I simply bundled up the executable from my installed folder.

Ugh. VPCS is mediocre. Use cfilearchiver, vpmage, or one of the other utilities out there.

It is very simple to use on the other hand. Which is why I suggested using it in my FAQ.

I use VPCS because it works and I'm too lazy to learn another program that does the same thing. :p
Do any of those other programs let you edit VP files directly rather than just create them?

Just one question.... Icant make a VP of the new models... like the HTL Apollo, Moloch, Ursa... I teory, should work, but no...
I make a working VP of the Lighspeed Nebula pack, but I cant make a VP of the URsa, Moloch, Apollo, no matter what I do, SCP not use it...

No matter if I put the files in the correct folders inside the VP (Models and Maps) or if simply putt averything in /Data inside the VP, No matter where I put the VP In the Mod main Folder or in "Mod"/data (Considering "mod" as Mediavps for the Ursa and Moloch and Port for Apollo... SCP just dont use it...
Any idea?

Well The Moloch is working, because is only one .pof file, is wrking when I put the inside in the /models folder inside the VP, but I still cant make the Ursa and Apollo to work...

Don't put them inside a data folder within the VP. There was a media VP release that did the same thing a while back and it wouldn't work either.

What's so good about VP's anyway?
Maybe it would be a good idea to add ZIP support or something into the SCP so that cross-platform non-crap tools can be used along side legacy VP files?
(Assuming VP files are just containers like PAK, WAD, PIG, etc. and don't store any funky meta-data alongside the file...)

They are just containers, though I believe there's some kind of read optimization that can be gleaned from the way they store data. Compression probably isn't a good idea because the files in the VPs get read many times in a game instance and having to decompress something many times isn't really a good idea.

I try everything... the .pof in /models and .pcx and anis in /maps and still dont work...
I also try a teorical install, to put the .pof in /models and the rest in /maps whiout a .VP and dont work too, the .POF file is taken, but is missed the textures...
By now the only way to use the Apollo and ursa is to put all files in /data... that the only way. but dont work inside a .VP :(

ok in a teorical install, teh Apollo work when I put the .pof in /model, the .pcx in /effects and the textures files in /maps...
But when I make a VP of that does not work! no matter if their are inside of a /data or not... very strange...

What pcx are you trying to put into effects? All ship textures should go into /maps, as models will explicitly not use textures found in effects. POF in models, textures in maps, glowpoints in (what's convention - they work from maps for me). The VP should have the same heirarchy.

Still not working...
the HTL Moloch works well in a .vp /data/models...
But icant make the Apollo and Ursa to work....

If the tool was designed properly, I shouldn't need to know how to use VPMage to answer the question. I know how the VPs themselves work and what structure they actually are composed of, which should be reflected in whatever tool you use. That said, I've gotten something out of place up to now - specifically that data/models and data/maps are in fact correct (the errors I've seen are two nested data folders, which was my assumption here) so I have been misleading up to this point.
However, the correct place for the VP is in the root level of the mod, not mod/data. If that helps any with your problem, ShivanSpS.

not... nothing... anyway both neula pack and moloch work from medivps/data, so i dont why this not going to work from port/data, anyway, I alredey tested this all... is not working... this has to be a SCP bug... there is not other option...

I don't know if this is your problem, but make sure you are using VPCS and not VPCS2. VPCS2 has some weird bugs with the files getting put in the wrong directories in some cirumstances.
