Title: A little bit of art
Post by: Jetmech Jr. on April 21, 2006, 10:03:14 pm
Just a few pics of mine. I mostly do unrealistic, slightly cartoon-like stuff, and rarely, if ever, do pics that aren't my own creations (I.E. not much fanart or the like ). I hope you enjoy my modest attempts at art.

First, a wierd evil looking knight I did once upon a time on a whim:

Occasionally, though it's usually in an anime style, and I don't have any uploaded atm other than a little bit of Chibi art of my mates (Mostly request work cause they wouldn't leave me alone til I drew em :D). Most often, I do creepy looking things, fantasy stuff, and a bit of sci-fi things like Power Armor. A couple self-portraits and the like done for school projects, as well, if you count those.

Power-Armored...Thing. Didn't really bother running it through any filters, just scanned and posted. I'll probably Inkline it in Photoshop...eventually.

Ugh, I can't stand the new forum coloration.

Ok, bit of Fanart this time around. The head didn't quite turn out how I wanted, but its...acceptable to me.

Grug: Its been a long time since I tried. I might do some test sketches of various FS ships, though.

Why does that look remotely familiar?

It almost looks sauronish in the head...
Nice sketch though. :)

The latest one looks like a cross-breed of a wampa (@Hoth), the Human Torch (@Fantastic 4), Witch King of Angmar (@Middle-Earth) and a hedgehog. He(/it?) looks like it could kick some serious ass against any of mentioned characters, except for the hedgehog perhaps.*

*That is completely due to fact that hedgehog is real, this creation and all other comparisions are fictive.

It was actually my attempt at the Shrike from the Hyperion Cantos.

Oh, that bugger.  :shaking:

I always imagined the spikes and shard longer, sleeker and sharper. And my image of the Shrike was not that... living. I mean, it wasn't really alive after all. But I'm most likely affected by cover art.

I always imagined the shrike as being vaguely organic looking. Long wolfgrin-jaws, the way they described its movements, the way the patterns on it's shell looked like mercury. Well, at least I can lay claim to the fact that my version at least has 4 arms (A pox on the Cover Illustrators, I say ;))

Those are them main things I went by, also, in particular, the quote describing it's eyes as red rubies set deep in it's head.

Yeah... What I'd do to that is I would sharpen and lengthen the spikes, perhaps define their borders a little better. Now the first impression is (at least to me) a long wet fur or flames.

Also other thing is shading. I can't quite easily get ahold of the overall shape as it is. For a first glance, it looks like like a big heap of fur or flames, only after some time I noticed all the arms. :D

One possibility would be to colour the background darker so that the shrike would kinda shine out of it.

It does look cool as it is, though. Only anatomical (lol, as if I knew anything about the vreature's anatomy ) anomaly is that I can't tell which one of its right hands is the upper one. The one it holds in fromt of it seems to start higher on the shoulder than the one it helds higher, but on that occasion the lower hand has very long upper arm, at least significantly longer than on the left side.
