Title: Cannon models
Post by: Mars on April 23, 2006, 12:33:28 pm
Did Volition ever release the weapon models (Subach, the Promethei, Kayser), because try as I might, I can't even make a decent ML-16 model. Also, could SCP be made to spin cannon models around as it does missles, without devoting too much of the valuble time of the programmers? The ani's seem out of place now.

Why would they bother themselves with those? Since they have ani's, there is no use for the models in game...

The "spinning cannon models" idea was an afterthought, and a spur of the moment one at that.

I asked about the cannon models because I want to *try* and make my own cannon model based off of the Prometheus, and I figure Volition already has the models- unless they deleted them... which would be weird, especially given this quote from their log:
Quote
The new weapon models in Freespace 2 are as cool as their in-game effects!
Which suggests somone put in a great deal of effort into them, and chances are they won't have any further use by Volition.

Well, they're not likely to say
[q]The new weapon models are all rather pish, really, and we did them in our lunchbreak[/q]

after all.  But AFAIK Volition kept all their models for FS series (and others), and they're lost in a great cupboard of holding-old-stuff as archived material.

I actually think someone considered having cannon models affixable to on-pof mountpoints, hence allowing the same spinny effect as the missiles, although I don't know if it was ever attempted to be implemented.

Actually they're on the backup tape we no longer have a machine to read, apparently.

Holy hell! That's horrible! when did it happen? What else was on the tape? Where is the information on it?

Not the dodgy Shivan porn animation tape?

Figured as much, just figured it was better to appear an idiot rather than a jerk.
