Title: Model update re-release.
Post by: Scooby_Doo on April 23, 2006, 04:48:05 pm
Well it's finally done. Hopefully this will solve the crashing problems.

http://rapidshare.de/files/18773273/scooby-04-23-06.rar.html

This package includes:

Each ship comes in a seperate VP file plus the additional.vp file for commonly used stuff (some textures, sounds...etc).  Please note that some of the test run missions have depenedencies on each other (the vette run mission for example, which lets you fly vampires)

Well about nine of them were fixes, redo shields, merge texturing and hopefully finally fix that crashing problem.

I've already got 4 "in the works", the essex/nimitz carrier, the thunderbolt, a  jrathek, a falcon(jaguar) and a krell.
Most of have their texturing done and just need light baking and converting.

Thunerbolts now converted and working.

Not too hip on the square frame beam though, but then the cockpit had a squarish design.

The Jrathek Mk 2.
The original and new

after some minor modifications and uv mapping

the original Demon

and now a variant

both have UV maps and just need texturing

You know, the Thunderbolt, really puts me in mind of the XB-70 Valkerie prototype bomber. I think that is my favorite of all you have shown. :yes:

Maybe try the other link, I'm sorry.  I'd LOVE to have something better than rapidshare.

Can't the WCSaga boys sort you out with access here?  Otherwise maybe you could have a word at Sectorgame (http://www.sectorgame.com/forums/), see if Hunter can spare some space.

Well, it's o.K. if you use our server for some of your download-links, just don't overdue it with bigger files like video and stuff :)

We are moving our FTP to a new one with unlimited bandwitdh within a few months (latest), than it will not matter anymore :)

That pod thing on top resembles a radar array like those you'd find on a modern AWACS aircraft like the Hawkeye.

I don't think so, but you can use pof models for them instead.

These look great!

Should the vps be placed directly in the active mediavp directory, in the data directory within the mediavp directory, or in another location?

Thanks for the work and creativity.

I put them with the mediavp directory (similar to d:\program files\freespace2\data)

I have two requests for the moment, please.
I'm looking for two different weapon effects (or any effect that could be used for primary weapon effects)
1.) The Demolisher cannon (the underbelly gun on the thunderbolt) needs something like a photon torp effect, does anyone have something similar (would be nice if it was ani so it could flicker)

2.) Does anyone remember the shield killer weapon the Nepilium lamprey used? It kinda resembled a smoke circle, oh i think one of descents weapons looked kinda like it.

Yes the microwave gun. I have that texture but I'd like to know if theres something better quality out there, if not I will have to do with that I have.

" I put them with the mediavp directory (similar to d:\program files\freespace2\data)"

Scooby, thanks for this! Just to clarify, are you literally placing the vps into (on my setup): C:\freespace2\mediavps\data? Or into C:\freespace2\mediavps?

Eugene

Title: Re: Model update re-release.
Post by: Scooby_Doo on April 27, 2006, 02:02:12 pm
For you it would be C:\freespace2\data.

Unless I'm doing things wrong  :nervous:
(Btw the only one absolutely necessary is the additional.vp, you can pick and choose which of the other ones you want, but please note some run missions will require other vp's)
Title: Re: Model update re-release.
Post by: StratComm on April 27, 2006, 06:08:37 pm
VPs should never go into Freespace2/data.  That puts them at the bottom of the search chain, where they will get overridden by things in the root Freespace2 directory regardless of how you set up the rest of your files.
Title: Re: Model update re-release.
Post by: Scooby_Doo on April 27, 2006, 06:46:41 pm
Opps my bad  :sigh:

I've put them in freespace2\ directory, is this still wrong and if so where are they suppose to go?
Title: Re: Model update re-release.
Post by: StratComm on April 27, 2006, 06:51:11 pm
That's fine :)

I'd suggest working out of a mod directory rather than being directly on top of a vanilla install, but that's more for organization and switching than from a functional perspective.  Either freespace2/ or freespace2/mod will give you correct behavior.

Post by: Scooby_Doo on April 28, 2006, 01:32:02 am
Now the Jrathek Mk 2.

It still needs a lot of texturing (mostly on the bottom, cockpit and rudders) [no logos, details...etc] Trying to run photoshop/max on a computer with only 385MB ram is not fun at all LOL.

Thanks to Viper for the base model.

Stratcom, I use a mod ini, and don't put anything into the freespace\data folder. Would placing these vps in my \mediavps directory (368 delta) work? Or in a further subfolder under mediavps\data, such as \models?? If they are compatible generally with cvs exes and most campaigns that would be my inclination.

Or would it be better to give them their own directory, perhaps "modelrerelease" and then add it to the secondary list in the mod ini??

Thanks for any advice!

The best thing to do would be to create a new "mod" with these ships (say a directory called "scoobymod") and drop these files straight in there.  Also since you're using a mod.ini setup, you'd probably want to set the mediavps mod up as a secondary mod.

Place this mod.ini in that directory and then select it from the launcher as your mod.
Code: [Select]
[launcher]
image255x112 = ;
infotext     = WC ships by Scooby Doo;
website      = ;
forum        = ;

[multimod]
primarylist  = ;
secondrylist = ,mediavps;

[settings]

So basically your second option, yes.

One has entries for initial turret rotation, the other doesn't. I was running fs2 that supported it but FRED didn't.  If your running older versions that complain about it, just rename them (i think).

Hmm... let me think...

Aurora Crusier, Athena Destroyer, Ajax Frigate, Rapier MK3, crossbow, piranha, bloodfang, encantona, vampire.

I know it's much, but I need all those ships ;)
Title: Re: Model update re-release.

Here you go... at least the rapier, pirahna, bloodfang, encantona and vampire.  The crossbow willl be soon and the cap ships may take a little while, I think their missing a few necessary subsystems.
http://www.badongo.com/file/1550515 (http://www.badongo.com/file/1550515)

It contains just the ship vp files and a couple of necessary extra textures.  No weapons table or extra stuff (i'm still reconfiguring those), besides you'll probably won't need them anyways.

I second that.  :)

I'll probably use only the Piranha and the AWACS vessel if I progress far enough in what I'm working on. The ships just don't fit in well with those meant for the FS universe (textures, sizes, gun points, methods of missile launch).

But then again, they aren't supposed to, so there's no point grumbling about it. :lol:
