I figured out how to do engine glows all by myself  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

"Cheese It" means "Run like hell"
From an episode of Futorama, some cops arrive and Bender yells "CHEESE IT!!" and runs off..

Ah. Obscure references without explanation attached= bad.

Still a pretty nice perspective.

Well, its nice for a first FreeSpace render. Like the background and engine glows. Only the models need a bit of smoothing and I think you can join Setekh and the rest.

the closeness of the loki makes the textures look like bad. try resizing them and smoothing them over.

also, don't make it so bright. set all the lights to 20% intensity except for one which should be 125% intensity, and ray trace that light only. it makes it look like you're in space with a little bit of light from the stars and one from the sun.

Actually, it probably should be mostly dark because of the shadow from the planet..
I gotta learn to take my time with these things..
That took me about 10 minutes to put together and render..

both the sun and the stars should be infinite lights.

Fixed the lighting, changed the color and intensity.
The background was made in photoshop, and the sun, I just placed the light where I thought it would be when it was rendered.
I'll fix the textures in the morning...

I use 3D Studio Max. They only have things like omni lights, spotlights, volumatric lights.....I have no idea if it has infinate lights.

Not bad  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) But eventually, you learn to find out the ships that look bad close to the camera simply because they lack detail. The Loki is infamous for that  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

A job for you, huh Snipes?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

use spots wherever possible

MAX treats omnis as 6 spotlights, so it gets a little inefficient on the shadowing.
