Title: You are all hereby ordered...
Post by: Rictor on April 28, 2006, 06:09:56 pm
...to go buy Psychonauts and play it.

Immeditately.

Or if you can't find it for sale, which you probably can't, get your hands on it somehow. To put it simply, the magic which has been lacking from games for quite some time is back. And it can set things on fire with its mind. I just finished it last night, after plowing through it in two 7-hour days, and I now consider Tim Schaefer to be some sort of mystical holy man that roams the world deliviring joy to all the good little gamers

It was my understanding that the first level was somewhat....'buggy' in that it's hard to find the right people to talk to, to progress through the game.

I thought that was worth mentioning.

Not really. There's one guy you need to talk to, and he's located in a giant tree-house that dominates the landscape. I've had no problems with either the game or the demo (the demo is the first level of the game) and in any case the problem would certainly be patched by now.

You're very, very late.

Excellent game nonetheless. It's a must buy. Too bad the sales suck too much for a sequel. :(

Damn it. I want this game, I've wanted it since I heard about it, and I can't find it anywhere. If I had a little more money I'd get it online.

For those of you who need some motivation, Tim Schaefer was the mastermind who created Grim Fandango, one of the most original, creative, and beautiful games ever created. It is what I consider the first game that showed the potential of interactive entertainment to be elevated to the realm of artistic merit alongside books and films.

I've been trying to get hold of it since I saw Tim's name attached to it. Not really had much luck. :(

Is this an adventure game? If it is, I'll probably buy it just because of that.

Scour the bargin bins at your local EB's and Gamestops. Even try your local Target/Wal-Mart/K-Mart in their discontinued sections. Hell, I found my copy at Best Buy in their discontinued games for a mere eight dollars. It is truly one of the most original, genuinely fun games in a looooooong time.

It's an adventure game disguising itself as a platformer.

You can pick up items, use them, interact with objects, there's even a scavenger hunt. And the game certainly has no shortage of puzzles and other non-twitch problems to solve.

Like I said, it's difficult to find. I looked in three stores and they all told me it was out of publication and they weren't likely to recieve any new stock soon, so I felt justified in aquiring it by other means. I feel bad, because the developers certainly deserve the money and would use it to finance their next game, so I'll probably look to buy it on Ebay soon.
