The perspective on the chickens could be better- the feathers look wierd. And the light mauve background might be nice as a lime green.

Iverach, you know you can get a still-high-quality image(can't even tell the quality difference) with a jpg save quality at 8... the quality starts making a noticable difference at 7 on down... but with 8 you can get a 100k about download at 1024x768... 500k jpgs are just not cool

Nah..Terran pilots are the best, so all the Shivan fighters would be dead and the remaininig Terran fighters are harassing the Lucifer with their puny Prometheus.

Just stick Kaysers on a Bomber and i'll be happy
-
Why Kaysers? If you are aiming for hull damage only, isn't the Maxim the best for the job? I thought it delivers more damage to hull than Kaysers.

Actually, if you do the math from the weapons.tbl, the Kayser does more hull damage per shot, but the Maxim per second.
The Maxim does 20 Damage with 1.3 Armor rating = 26 hull damage per shot. It has a Fire Wait of 0.15 which means it fires 6.67 (rounded to two decimals) shots per second. This means that 26*6.67 = 173.33 (rounded to two decimals) hull damage per second.
The Kayser does 28 Damage with 1.0 Armor = 28 hull damage per shot. But since it has a Fire Wait of 0.25, you only get 4 shots per second. 28*4 = 112 hull damage per second.
Per shot, the Kayser is better,
Per second, the Maxim is.
Joe.
(and yes, I created and Excel file to do all this math so I could figure out the stats for my new weapons (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)).

What's the subsystem factor on each of them? Cause I know that the Maxim is very devestating on turrets and such.

Large documents + slow server = BAD!
It took 30 seconds for that to load up on my college's dual-T1 connect. Can you imagine how long that'd take on my 56k at home?

Yep, that Orion's gonna whup that Lucifer good. That'll larn those Shivans...
BTW, Orion is better when renders leave it with that sort of gunmetal grey tint (ie. as with this one). Gold and blue spaceships BAD!

per second is more important when dealing with cap ships, while per shot is more important when dealing with really fast interceptors and such. so maxim is better in this case.

Rating | Per Shot | Per Second
Akheton: 1 | 30 | 85.71
Maxim: 1 | 20 | 133.33
Kayser: .35 | 9.8 | 39.20
Per Shot Akheton is best, but per second it's the Maxim.
Maxim also has the longest range: 1800 Velocity * 2 Lifetime = 3600 distance.

Looks great. The perspective on the beam is a little off (should grow smaller with distance, so it should be barely visible when it reaches the Lucifer).
Chickens?!? WTF!?!

Shouldn't the caption be something to the tune of "Up yours"? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
Anyways, a few nitpicks:
- Change the explosion layer to screen (or was it multiply? I forget - it's one or the other).
- The white core of the beam and warmup glow should be significantly larger then it is, while the beam radius should stay the same.
- When you render ships to which you're going to add a beam in post production, put strong local lights where the beam warmup glow and impact location are, to throw glows on the nearby sections of the ships.
But all in all, good job - especially on the engine glows and lighting... Oh, and BTW - flip the Orion. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
