thanks S for the nice pictures :D
Three monitors rule (four of you count my laptop on synergy)
-
Why 4? Just for the general convenience of multi-monitors, or do you have 4 boxes?
-
two boxes - desktop driving 3 monitors (with the background above) then my laptop is a synergy display
system is linux - leftm ost monitor is email/gaim on all desktops
center+right are firefox,firefox on Virtual Desktop 1; Quanta (code),Konsoles on VD2
VD3 and VD4 are open

Handy. i'm using a laptop, windows box for the main dev environment and a solaris machine mostly used for builds and running test environments, all of which have seperate mice and keyboards...... pain.in.the.arse, I can tell you.

Ooooh, interesting. good shout.
Think the network security application we're forced to endure would go mental at it, natch.... I'll have to see if I can sneak it in somehow.
-
doesn't go off local network
-
Not to throw a negative vibe onto this but can I ask if you think the power requirements (and thus the environmental impact) are worth it? Coding and perhaps firefox are probably the only 'simultaenious' apps that I would guess you need to run but I'm not familiar with your working method so I'm just guessing here.
I used to run two monitors before I realised that virtual desktops performed an almost identical function and the electricity cost was much lower.

If it uses any form of connection, the security proggy *****es about it. We're talking the level of anal-ness that means you get warnings (executing a system function from a buffer, IIRC) whenever you open a zip file.....

Who are you asking?

thanks S for the nice pictures :D
Yeah, no worries. ;)
-
Who are you asking?
Well Kazan specifically but it does apply to anyone who runs a multi-monitor setup.
-
don't you think that it's a little racist to have the terran pride shot ? We do have vasudans on this board you know... :headz:

Well if - for example - you're running a UI-based application (in general; any application where you'd need a different screen to see any form of background info) and debugging it with Eclipse or some IDE, it's incredibly useful. I use 3 machines for that at work; one to run the background stuff, one to invoke the program actions, one to hook in and debug.

Why do the Ursa's in the first pic have subspace portals in their engines? :nervous:

they're jumping in?
ask steak - it's his artwork

they're jumping in?
That'd seem the most likely explanation, what with the 'Assualt' title. I'd forgotten how good Steaks renders were. Well, partly forgotten.
