I think that's the latest bunch...
Now I want to ask you lot something. Would you guys like an Array™ which you could post comments to? You'd be able to put comments on any render you want - put down your name and it'll come out. I'm not too sure I'd be able to make a proper login system so I'll leave it open to unregistered users - that means you'll have to be honest with your names (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
But basically, I want to know if you're going to be using it or not if it's there. Whatcha think? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Great renders (as always (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)) And yes, a comments system would be great - if used properly it'd give all us renderers pointers because people would say what they liked/didn't like and so on.
-
I think its a good idea. Besides, I don;t think you have to worry about the login thingy. Everybody who creates a render will definitely want the render to be theirs, so naturally, they will give their real nicks or names.

You mean... everybody who creates a comment? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Oh...yeah. I meant comment.
I think I should really take your advise and play FreeSpace 2. Too much work makes NeoHunter confused.

Okay, WarpStar... here's how it works (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) There'll be a form there on the page (or on a popup - we'll see (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)), which has two fields - name and comments. You stick your name in, put in your comments, and then out comes the comment, on the same page as the pertaining render, underneath the picture and my own comments. there is some ubb hacks out that can do the same thing and also work of forum logins
-
So, you think we should can the option of having the comments inbuilt to the Array™? I have an Array UBB forum on standby, so...
-
I kinda like the "in Array" idea - but thats just me - it's your site (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
And Styxx...oh nevermind (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
Well, I'm for the in-built system too, so... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Out of Order...
So... do models just vanish as soon as they're rendered? All I ever see are ones rendered and then never heard of again, ones used to p1mp campaigns that only rarely come out at all and terrible 2-year-old ones at most of the sites! Gimme gimme! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Hate the Traitor:
Better with Hercs- Myrmidons look too wierd in groups to get really nice renders
Most of the rest:
Bwarg? I don't get it...
And yes, a comment system would be nice, although odds are it would be immediately clogged when some idiot flooder found it...
-
And how DO you make those explosions? Either that is a... VERY nice particle generator or a long time on Photoshop, I can't tell which.
-
Glares at Setekh... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
He uses his very own Spire to make explosions now - I swear that one day that kind of thing will be commercially available, but untill then the rest of us will have to sweat blood to do it to the same level of quality.
-
Ach. I assume he isn't interested in spreading the wealth. Oh well, RDS can do pretty much the same with a little trouble...
-
RDS?

My heavily outdated modeling program. It's still much nicer than TrueSpace, but it's nearly friggin' impossible to get FS models into it properly, and even harder to go the opposite way, since it imports DXFs well and exports them horribly (or TS imports them badly, one or the other). My only current sample of its flame effect is this:
And I am still tinkering with it- it's not very easy to generate, and veeeeeerrrrryyyy slllooowww to render. It can, however, do something like Setekh's blasts when you view the flames from the top.
[EDIT: Dammit, where is that render...]
------------------
No, I can't remember the last time I posted something productive, mother.

only pb spire is for linux. When do you make a windows version?
alternative question: is there an efficient linux emulator for windows?
-
Ah. Linux. Never could tell whether it was any better or worse than Windows (not counting 2000, which... well, ask Zylon my opinion on Win2k (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif).) Anyway, yes, there is an emulator, but it costs mioney, and I don't have money, so I always ignored it... poke around online for demos, maybe?
-
an emulator that costs money, that emulates a free OS... I wonder if I should (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif) or (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)
better make a dual boot I suppose...
Anyway, I never heard about Setkh giving Spire away, so it's talking for nothing :þ
-
Like I said- there are many things online besides hardcore porn, pictures of people's ugly babies, and game sites, if one looks deeply enough...
But yes, it appears to be a moot point.
-
Just a quick demo, I didn't toy with sizes or blast widths much, just to put up for comparison...

Oh, ok, one last (probably not) call for requests. Comments on the Array or not (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) I'm going to be expecting all of you on there if it goes ahead... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
As for Spire - as a public program, it's got a long way to go before we even consider it worthy for others to use. Like I explained to The Avenger a while back, I just realised that there is no learning curve - for everyone except my brother and I, it's going to be a wall straight up (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) But in terms of features, I guess that's where it's strength is.
And if you've wanted to know, I've tried many times to port it to Windows - but I just gave up. It's bloody hard. And trust me, Thunder bugs me about it enough to make me try very frequently...
I'm going to re-work the code this weekend. Well, major chunks of it, anyway. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

You know, Thunder, one of these days we'll get tired of seeing your face on every single post you make. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
anyway, for now, it's dalmn funny (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
oh, steak, don't underestimate my... learning curve (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) it can go at straight angles sometimes (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
Ah, but it's not on every post I make - just where it's needed (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Setekh- You'd be suprised.
And since Kazan is now switching to Linux, mebbe he'll help. [wanders off staring into the sky saying "maybe..."]
-
Yeah, but if Kazans switching to Linux then he's not going to be making it for Windows is he... still, it would be nice.
-
Anyway, back on topic:
"All against a comment system on the Array, say 'nay'..."
*sounds of silence*
"All in favor of a comment system on the Array, say 'yea'..."
*eardrums aroumd the world burst from the deafaning sound of the word 'yea' coming from a billion throats*
:-/ {timid}I feel better now...{/timid}

Thanks Sandwich, appreciated (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) I guess it's a go - might add a couple of other things while we're at it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
