Hi
I am trying to get the campaign Sol A History And Inferno to work.
Ok I have tried this 3 times and reinstalled everythingm I tried using my retail version and going throug the the exact steps on the Freespace Oracles webpage and the tried to install SAH and Inferno release 1 aswell as the patch for it but I keep getting errors like error in ship.tbl where it conplains about @laser something and then the ulysses class fighter and so on. I really want to play this campaign can somebody please be so kind as to write down exactly what they did to get it to work cause I cant get it to work.

The problem I suspect is not that you've done anything wrong but that Sol:A History simply doesn't work with the SCP.
The more I see posts like this, the more I think that when we release the next official build we should get the entire community to make sure that every campaign is fixed to at least load on it. It would be something of an effort for the community to do but it would be worth it :)

Hmm ok thats not good think it will work with the Retail version of Freespace 2 ????? :doubt:

you CAN get SAH to work with the SCP. pm me and I'll send you some fixed table files from Shadow0000. But He has a bigger update, although he still hasn't loaded it, because he has bandwidth issues, been waiting for it since April. Alternatively, you can look through the Sol:A History thread and they're also in there.
Most of the non-SCP campaigns will work on the SCP if the files have been edited by people who know what to change. However, some of them don't look very nice because they're using old nebulae and such, and so they need probably a more in depth update.

Updating the backgrounds would be something of a major task. I'm not worried about campaigns looking out of date. You play an old game you can expect that it might look out of date. Problem is things like the tables which prevent you playing them at all.
