http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/04/28/ruh-roh-raggy-scooby-doo-returns-to-saturday-morning-tv/
There are some cartoon characters that have a permanent shield of double-thick steel around them. When you think they're finally gone, they come back in a new form.
Take our pal Scooby-Doo, for example. Scooby and his Mystery Inc. friends have been with us since 1969. That's 37 years, kids; 259 in dog years (you knew I had to throw in that joke, didn't ya?). Since then he's been paired with Fred, Daphne, and Velma, the Scooby-Doobies (From Laff-a-Lympics), Dynomutt, Vincent Price and, ahem, Scrappy-Doo. After leaving Saturday mornings in the late '80s, he returned with the entire Mystery Inc in What's New Scooby-Doo for the Kids WB.
Now he's back again in this fall's 'Kids WB on the CW' (catchy, ain't it?) in Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue. In this show... well, perhaps you should jump to find out what it's all about, and also see some of the other new series premiering next fall on Kids WB.
In the new cartoon, Shaggy and Scooby live in the 'bling'd-out mansion' (The WB's words, not mine) of Shaggy's Uncle Albert. They still have the Mystery Machine, but it can now transform into one of a number of transportation modes. Scooby Snacks are still available, but they are now infused with nano-technology that allows Scooby to fly or turn into a giant robot. Their mission is to keep the Scooby Snacks away from those who would use them for evil.
Well, at least Scrappy-Doo isn't on the show.
What's happening to this "bling'd-out" generation of TV shows?

... someone should burn all copies of this show...

Nope.

Too much political correctness being shoved in their faces. Only makes things worse IMO. >..>

Too true.
All those cartoons... really they just spit "arrogance" at me. Something I think kids have enough of without seeing it as a role model or any kind of acceptable behaviour. =/

No kidding. I can still vaguely remember the old GI Joe cartoons from when I was a kid. Those were the days........

As far as animations goes, I usually only watch anime. But sometimes I do get the chance to see what todays kids cartoons look like. Some time ago I saw this Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, I was dismayed. Today the series is much more violent and the animation style is also darker, more violent. In one of the episodes, Shredder was beheaded in a duel with one of the ninja turtles. This new-age series is airing at midday, most kids who watch TV are most likely watching this violent re-incarnation of the old series. Funnily enough I still own one VHS tape which contains two episodes of old-time TMNT episodes, the kids always watch it when they come by and greatly enjoy it. Why it is like producers now produce teen-age stuff for young kids?

Because that's what the original TMNT was? It was a violent independent comic book.
-
Fury, what are you talking about? They have been doing that for a loooong time now. Did you ever see the X-Men cartoon? Or how about Gargoyles? What about Batman (the one from 1992-ish, I think) which was insanely well done. Exosquad, which actually showed people dying? Or, hell, even GI Joe and Transformers. They all touched on racism, political issues (this goes double for X-Men), genocide, and dozens of other hot-button issues. ****, the greatest cartoon of all time (Looney Toons) was extremely racist and violent.
Its just that now everything either so PC that its a load of crap, that or its all XTREMEOMGWTFBBQ! just for the sake of being that way. Those cartoons I mentioned above *had* a reason to be dark, dramatic, mysterious, what have you. Not because it was cool, but because it actually fit the story.
-
wasn't there an eppisode of Gargoyals were demona killed like thousands of people with a mace (after turning them to stone with a televised spell) men women childeren?
-
To be honest, I have never seen original TMNT comic books, nor seen X-Men, Gargoyles and Exosquad cartoons. Batman I have seen. Batman is okay by me because it has always aired late afternoon, not morning, midday or early afternoon. My point with TMNT was that its totally different compared to late 80's/90's TMNT. However, I have only seen two episodes of the new TMNT, the beheading thingy was really over the top considering how young kids are watching the show during midday. Here it is airing every friday midday, so the kids in school won't see it but kinds below school-age will.
-
There isn't a new TMNT, IIRC. Just the old episodes with a new opening theme.
-
um...I wonder if this contribute:
Given the content of the early Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, it seemed unlikely that they would hit it big. In keeping with their parody of "grim 'n gritty" comics of the early 1980's, the Turtles engaged in a greater amount of overt violence in the pages of the Mirage comic book series. As the TMNT were introduced into the mainstream, they were radically redesigned for a younger audience. This evolution incensed a core group of fans who had faithfully collected the independently-published comic series from its inception. They accused Eastman and Laird of "selling-out" their indie roots in favor of corporate greed. In issue #19 of Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the creators published an editorial addressing these concerns. It stated, in part: "We've allowed the wacky side to happen, and enjoy it very much. All the while, though, we've kept the originals very much ours--forty pages of what we enjoy and want to see in our books, whether it comes from our own hands or from those of the talented people we work with."
Censorship (ruining everything...as always):
Upon TMNT's first arrival in the United Kingdom, the name was changed to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" (or TMHT, for short), since local censorship policies deemed the word ninja to have excessively violent connotations for a children's program. Consequently, everything related to the Turtles had to be renamed before being released in the UK. The lyrics were also changed, such as changing "Splinter taught them to be ninja teens" to "Splinter taught them to be fighting teens."
The policies also had other effects, such as removing Michelangelo's nunchakus (which were at the time banned from appearing in even 18-rated movies) and generally toning down the usage of all the turtles' weapons. After many seasons of never using his nunchakus, they eventually disappeared entirely, replaced by a rope with a shell on the end that held small hooks.
By the time of the 2003 TV series, these censorship policies had been abolished, and no changes have occurred in the content of the show. The name "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" remained unchanged for the 2003 show. As a result, in the U.K., the 1987 show is still called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and the 2003 show is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Ninjas are originally from Japan, it seems that's more than enough to censor it...

No, it's new. I've happened to pass through while my little sister was watching. It's distinctly a different series: For example, Shredder is both competent and an alien using a fake robotic body.

I remember it being rather ace in comic book form at that, too. Whenever I watched the cartoon on TV as a kid (bout 8-9 I think), I remember being distinctly struck by how pointless it was in that they had swords, etc but could never use them. I don't think you need to protect kids that much from violence so long as they understand what reality is and isn't; they don't get ****ed up by violent cartoons or images, they get ****ed up because they don't understand both them and the consequences in reality. And the latter is something we all have to learn at some point, and to me that includes childhood. We are not, after all, talking about an 18-rated cartoon equivalent to the comic - we're talking about a robot Shredder getting chopped up.

If only people felt that way about nipples...

Nipples are evil. If you look at the statistics*, you'll find a high number of criminals have been exposed to graphic images of nipples as babies. These people are so depraved that from birth they not only are exposed to but instinctively suckle nipples!
*statistics made up.

That may depend how you see it, in any case weapons, specially designed for war, should be censored if that's the way of thinking. Most kid TV shows have adult themes, however it's up to te viewer to see them, just analyse Scooby Doo original concept and you will end with something like this:
It is often mentioned that there appear to be veiled drug references in the series. The Mystery, Inc. gang do bear some resemblance to potheads, and the authors of the show have admitted to allowing some degree of ambiguity to develop around this issue, while never explicitly showing any of the gang taking drugs. This can be considered fanon.
"Clues" include:
* Shaggy and Scooby always having "the munchies."
* Their passion for "Scooby Snacks."
* The Mystery Machine sporting a psychedelic paint job, with flowers and mod lettering
* When the van drives away, smoke is seen coming from the windows instead of the exhaust.
* The gang's inability to solve the obvious cases (except for Velma).
* The paranoia experienced by Shaggy and Scooby, despite the fact that they had both been involved in the foiling of dozens of so-called spirits. Yet in each new episode they experience fear right up to the moment of the unmasking of the villain.
* Shaggy saying "like" to an extreme degree, i.e. "Zoinks! Like, Scoob, let's, like, get outta here!!"
* Scooby and Shaggy always the ones in the back of the van, although it has been suggested that the two are busy eating.
The problem is simply and will never cease to exist as long as censor exist, the job of a censor is simple, in short words it is "To protect the viewer from reality"...however things like that can't be censored until they would to censore the 100% of the series or make a total remake...

Quiet!! You'll give them ideas!
-
 (it wasn't intentional)
-------------------------------------------
Now that reminds me, in the series Loonatic Unleashed, before the proper release in September 2005, all the characters used different name (Stage names), and the character who resembles Bugs Bunny (Ace Bunny) has a stage of Buzz Bunny, this was changed because there was already a character with that name registered, however the funny part comes from that there is a dildo named "Buzz Bunny".
If it weren't from that other character, a lot of people would be making jokes like with the Nintendo Wii to this date, and maybe even worse since it was a kid show...

Agreed. Political correctness already cost us Elmer Fudd and Speedy Gonzales... my childhood is gone.
