Title: Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondents' Dinner
Post by: Ford Prefect on May 08, 2006, 03:32:17 am
Oh. My. God. Just.... Oh. My. God.

Stephen Colbert has just redefined "balls". (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-869183917758574879)

He should never have done that.  All he managed to do was make a fool of himself.  Hell, people weren't laughing at most of his poorly-thought jokes.  He could have ripped much more, and be alot funnier with it.  I am honestly quite ashamed.

If I could, I would reach through my monitor and slap the sense out of you.

"It's like the movie Rocky, alright? The president in this case is Rocky Balboa. And Apollo Creed is... everything else in the world."

He could have done much better if he wasn't trying to hold himself from doing much more.

IMO, he went as far as he could given the audience, and even a little too far in places. There's a definite difference between making a light-hearted poke and a biting jab, the difference being that when you make a light-hearted poke, you don't wind up getting 'disappeared'.

Are you ****ting me? Did you hear what he was saying? He was effectively calling the president a simpleton while standing five feet away from him, looking him in the eye. The reason people weren't laughing was because he was playing so rough, and you could cut the tension in the room with a knife.

People didn't laugh because it was a hand-picked audience and they just couldn't believe what they were hearing. Laughing at his jokes would've been a suicide in that enviroment.

"Ok, now he's calling our generals cowards... Now he's calling our President stupid... Now he's dissing Rumsfeld.."

Colbert is honestly one of my heroes. And I'm going to write him in as my vote for president in 2008. I think he had the audience in a state of semi-shock, which is why it looked like they weren't laughing at times. My only criticism was that his audition tape seemed to drag on for a little too long... other than that, he was absolutely fabulous.

My biggest question is this: Who the hell let him in? I'll bet someone got their ass fired over this.

Quote from: Steve Colbert
I believe the government that governs best is the government that governs least. And by these standards, we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq.

Funny and true. Hats off to Colbert.

Y'know, I would have had alot more respect for bush and his associates if they'd laughed.  Because, the ability to laugh at yourself is always a plus in my book.  Character wise anyway.

He's like the crazy girl who screams about animal rights at the prom.

****ing fag.

The crazy girl at prom doesn't scream about animal rights in the character of someone who hates animals.

I saw this a week or two ago.  Colbert's usually much funnier, but it was pretty funny.  But click the link to the video, then look to the right and find the President Bush Impersonator bit.  That was really funny.

But that's not as funny because everyone was laughing at it. The reason Stephen Colbert was so funny was because he had the godlike testicular fortitute to get up in front of a crowd hand-selected by the White House, and call the president an idiot to his face. The president's little bit with his impersonater was all on his own ground. It was cute and everyone was all cozy with it. But when Colbert started in, to paraphraze Dane Cook, the vibe was as though Daddy just hit Mommy at the dinner table and everyone was still trying to eat.

If you're going to preach tolerance you better damn well practice it towards everyone (fundamentalists, gun-lovers, etc.).

You do know what tolerance means, don't you?  It means, you can criticise & argue with people for being wrong, but you can't run around just insulting them.  Now, AFAIK, Kara has never just called you are anyone (for example) a "****ing dick" or somesuch.

Even if I had I would simply be insulting him. The issue is with using someone sexuality as an insult and thereby insulting everyone with that sexuality.

If you insult one person based on his actions that's generally acceptable as long as you aren't doing it to a member of this board and therefore flaming.
