Title: 3ds Max tardedness
Post by: Carl on May 09, 2006, 06:18:18 pm
I can't get shadow maps to work for an animation. The shadows are there on the first frame, but but they disappear afterwards. Is there some setting i'm overlooking?

Errh. No idea. =/

Nothing in the lighting settings that are buggering up?
Maybe something in the rendering settings to do with what lighting effects to apply?

You can set shadows, as well as any other effect in MAX to shut off on a certain frame...make sure you didn't key the shadows to turn off on the second frame...um, go through the menu for the specific light and make sure you have all the settings the same at the beginning and the end of your animation too...which version of max are you using?

Verson 6. and the curve editor shows no light animation taking place.

By the way, the problem only happens with shadow maps. If I use ray traced shadows, they work fine.

Not sure, you should probably check the documentation on the shadowmapping procedure.  Though I'd think that even if they failed, they'd stay there but just wouldn't animate.  Shadowmapping has always been a tad dicy in my experience so I haven't used it much.
