Title: The Olden Days
Post by: Alikchi on October 29, 2001, 06:48:00 pm
 http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/screenshots/officialscreens.shtml (//"http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/screenshots/officialscreens.shtml")

Take a look at those screenshots..
http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/screenshots/dcss7.jpg (//"http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/screenshots/dcss7.jpg")  - This one is very interesting. The old Harpoon was originally called the Crossbow (its model is crossbow.pof) as evidenced here. The Subach was the Sidearm (glad they changed names) and the Moloch was called the "Daurvi".

There really isn't any rhyme or reason to this post, I guess. It's just interesting to see whatt it looked like..

I remembered when the FS2 demo first came out...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I played it on a P2-300 with a TNT2-M64 - I must have gotten about 2fps (no joke)... finished it by hacking my fighter into getting lots of MX-64s that had a smaller turning circle so I could finish the mission without actually moving my fighter (bad for the animation!).

I remember that fine day - it was like christmas all over again when I saw what was on the coverdisk. I must have played that demo so many times over...

I spent a whole sunday downloading the damn thing on a crappy 33.6k modem... But it was worth it, ah it was worth every single minute. Then I had to wait, like, four months till they released the game on Brazil...

well, before the FS2 demo, I never played any FS game. I had to play this demo with the details set to the minimum, and believe me, the LOD4 of the manticore isn't pretty at close range... So I didn't play FS for a while. I got FS1 last year on a CD in a magazine, and bingo! The week that followed, I bought FS1 (yup, again)+Silent Threat+FS2  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Couldn't play my FS2 for long anyway, I had to wait for a better computer ( I waited for about 3 months, d'oh!)

I made a list of all sorts of stuff like that while going through the FS2 missions. Check it out at my site ("http://www.geocities.com/sandvich/") (use this link since the one in my siggy points to a server that's down...). Go to FS2 -> Notes -> Discrepancies for the list - there's quite a number of interesting entries in there.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I still call the Harpoon the Crossbow.  The Cyclops was the Belial, the Moloch was the Gauri (and damn did it have lots of flak).  Yes, and the Perseus was from Kresco (Kresgie strikes again).
