In it's latest incarnation...
Thoughts? (especially on the nose section)
-
I have no serious problems with the nose.
Some pictures from other angles would be great to, especially a top view (and side views if they differ).
-
Good!
The ship is (virtually) symetrical, and I didn't want to do a 6 view on it just yet because I'm not much good at drawing and didn't want to waste time.
Improvements? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

From this side, it looks like...

-
Ah yes, looked at that just after you went off ICQ. The Aquila is different in a number of ways (most obvious being it has two runways, like I said - it's symetrical). However I'll be taking steps to make it look as original as possible.
-
You should model it... seriously.
-
Ah, but first I need to learn how to model... thats why I need to bring someone elses services in once I know what to make it look like.
-
Ok, works coming along fairly nicely - I've got through about 5 sheets of paper (on both sides) trying to 1) learn to draw and 2) actually come up with a good design.
So far the finalised details are:
The rear section fighter bays/engine.
The ship will serve as a battleship/carrier and will be about 4.5KM in length.
Additional help and comments are most welcome at this stage. Whatever you think about the ship - say it now.
-
hey! you stuck an orion on the side of your ship, didn't you? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
That's what I was thinking...is the hangar bay still on the top?
-
No, your right - to be honest I really love the fighter bays being along the side length of the ship... not sure why. But there are two fighter bays - one on either side of the ship. Theres nothing up the top anymore.
-
It looks bulky and powerful. Which is good.
-
Thankyou (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Thorns kindly submitted an idea for the front of the ship... I anticipate another one or two days of finalising details on it and then the fun should really begin.
Oh BTW - any ideas on how heavily armed this thing should/can be?
-
Still 5 km? If you really want it to be an all-rounder, I'd say somewhere around Colossus-powered. That's if it's supposed to be more advanced.
Though you can make do with a thinner anti-fighter screen, as the ship's smaller.
Probably around 3-5 large anti-cap beams on each side, a few top and bottom, and a pair of big whoppers covering the front arc. And not forgetting the back.
-
I want a compact design. Give it cutting edge reactors for the power, chunky engines, and all-round beam coverage. Hell yeah. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

When will that be coming out?
-
Thunder- often it helps if you skip the drawing bit and just start modeling. That way you can get your ideas done more quickly, see how they will look, and often find out just what's feasible. That's how I completed the Tora, among other blocky things.

Of course, I can't vouch for whether this works when using something as crappy as Truespace. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

True...but I possess no modelling skills at all. I plan to draw each section in extreme detail and then model it when everything is as I want it.
-
Take a hint, Thunder - now's a good reason to learn (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Look for a US/QM staffer and ask 'em (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I'd love to learn - but I really don't have that much spare time at the moment, nor do I have the skills to do the model justice. Watch this space on what I plan to do about that...

Hmmm, the nose is fine, but maybe modify the Orion Part a little.
It'll one helluva ship though (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Hmmm, sounds like my GVCa Amaunet, current version being RC1. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) Soon, my dears, soon.... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Sounds like my problem. I've tried to model stuff but so far, I can make cubes....and twisted cubes. But nothing worth showing (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I made a set of gallows..
just a bunch of cubes and rectangles stuck together..
