I recently got back into the swing of modelling, and decided to make a mech. However, since my last attempt was such a Horrendous failiure (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v107/anandraj/mech5.jpg) because I didnt have a clue then, I'm hoping to get it right this time around. As such, any feedback on my current setup for the legs would be appreciated - I'm not sure if I got the proportions right. The body needs to be done, but how large it is depends largely on whether I nailed the support and base right first.
In any case, the pics:

Edit: updated the legs and changed it to the pivot point.

Hey, it looks pretty good Singh, like you said you're not done with the body...so i'm sure you'll add more to complete that later, but currently i think the body should sit a little farther forward, it just looks like its a little back heavy, but as you said the body isn't done
so the legs then: the feet on this thing look great, you should put some of that detail you're so good at into the "knee" joints, maybe some added support at those joints or something to thicken them up, looks a little flimsy. some added hydraulics or something like that would probably go great with it.
good work, keep it up, and hurry up with the body, i'm interested to see what you'll do with it. oh, and this attempt looks so much better than your "horrendous failure"...you should be ashamed of yourself :D ;7

Halt! Present hall pass! You have ten seconds to comply...
I like eet! :)

small update. Did some greebling on the legs as advised, did the torso (still a WIP, so some of it may change) and still need to attach arms. I'm going for an Uziel-esque look for the body, with the cockpit rather low and weapons systems on top. I need advise preferably on the proportions and size of the torso.

it looks kinda chubby, maybe a little top heavy...i don't know, i'm not into mechs all that much, and my architecture background does me no good for mechanical designs...so i could be wrong too. I think that i'm more acustomed to the traditional style of mech...i can't remember the name of the game...it was a mech shooter game for DOS, where you ran around in a maze looking for the other mech...then you'd each other to pieces...then start a new maze...it was cool

basically this is what i think of as traditional

What weight class would it be? It looks okay for a medium, but for heavy/ assult needs more - er - "pelvic" mass.
MODIFY: It looks a little more like the Ryoken than the Uziel right now. :nervous:

ditto on the beefing up the pelvic area, but that will also mean the legs will then look a touch spindly. Some extra armour plating there should sort that out.
My only other gripe is the back seems to flat, with the main torso being that tall it needs a lil more depth to it to make it more even looking.

Just strap a rocket engine on the back or something :D
The legs do need a little more armour for a torso that looks that big, and you could add jump jets on the back (:p), but then the legs would have to be reinforced even more...

Yup. Already taken into account and adjusted. Ive made a new thread for the final product. :)
