Title: The Barghest
Post by: Singh on May 16, 2006, 03:19:57 pm

There was once a beast, belonging to the many legends of a planet gone long before. Strong and powerful, it was so rare, that catching a glimpse of it, or a single good look at it would send even the strongest man to death soon after. Not even the wittiest could survive looking at its form in the dark night, hellish as it was. And this is why we now unleash these beasts upon our foes and cower in the night, hoping against hope that the ones who glance upon them are our enemies, and not ourselves, for what we release here and now are nothing short of these legends brought to life...and most likely, our doom in the making.

- Colonel Joseph, before releasing the three Barghest mechs found in the Deneb excavation site against the incoming planetary invasion.

Reminds me somehow on the Uziel from MechWarrior 4

Looks a lot more meatier(?) with textures. I like!

I want that in Core Decision (http://coredecision.highoctane.biz/), or at the very least, Descent 2 XL or Descent 3.

( I think it's supposed to)

Very good, though.
Excellent work!

IMO the legs look a bit too light and feeble for it. They don't look powerful and durable.
And the rocket launchers look weak, them being so small.

But the arm cannons are just kickazz!

I have to agree with you on the legs part, They look  too smal or too thin to fit on the heavier torso.

But the upper body really looks awesome

Anything about an Arnament of some sort? Weight/Weight class?

Arnament is as follows:

Head:
1x Twin Heavy Cannons

Torso:
6x Missile racks
6x Mk IV Particle Beam Cannon system (the array of three cannons on either side)
4x Mk V Particle Beam cannon system (the four lined up above the cockpit)

Arms:
1x Twin Heavy Laser cannon per arm

As for the legs, it's semi-supported by the legs and semi-supported by an anti-gravity system. I WILL be thickening them later on, however since it means editing ****loads of parts, it'll have to come quite a bit later.

Created with HeavyMetal Pro

Not particularly heavily armed, short on knock-out-punch type weapons, heat problems, less armor then I'd like. But like a Hellbringer (alias Loki), it may go down easy, but it's gonna take your scout lance with it.

An 80ton Assault Mech with a BV of 1,050... thats very low.. i think the Barghest need definitly more Heat sinks and a Primary Weapon to become effective.
The two pairs of LB-2X may be good for extreme Long Rage but the Damage suckz, maybe you could use a ER-PPC plus Heat sinks instead of one pair of autocannons. Of course thats only my opinion

Was somewhat constrained by the number of visible weapons on the design, and Singh's description of their types. Then again, the BattleMaster's PPC has two barrels.

I also have a habit of making less-then-munchkin designs.

indeed. Note, this is for an original universe, not Battletech. If you were to convert it to battletech, its equivalent would have significant amount of heat sinks (it IS a laser-based mech after all, with around 10 of then giving off ****loads of heat) as well as their being two LRMs (the largest launchers in the top most) two MRMs (the row of two launchers in the torso itself) and two SRMs (the smallest pod right next to the LRMs). The beam cannons are spot on, though - except that the top is a single 'twin' autocannon, not 4x it. The arm cannons would also be lasers (maybe either ER Medium or if thiers enough heat sinks, ER Large) rather than autocannons.

A rather hefty arnament, but it's slow and **** and meant to duke it out with other land targets. Its hard to quantify it in Battletech against regular mechs, since the universe its supposed to be based in has -no- other mechs, or technology of it's advancement. In fact, it would also be offset by the fact that this thing has a shield generator for the front and rear (the slats in front are basically the heat sinks/radiators dedicated only for that system), allowing it to take ****loads of punishment before it goes down. And when it goes down...it goes down. There isnt even time for any ejection system to get a pilot to safety. :p
