TOKYO May 25, 2006 (AP)— In a step toward linking a person's thoughts to machines, Japanese automaker Honda said it has developed a technology that uses brain signals to control a robot's very simple moves.
Pretty cool stuff.

I'd prefer working Automail.
-
Humanity has worked out how to harness/interprate basic brainwaves, But we still cant get trains to arrive on time...... Go fig :ick:
-
Just wait until said robots are shrunk to about 9" tall and come in clear plastic winged eggs filled with water... and then create a game where said robots fight each other in hth combat on a table called a... erm... platter? And and the robots won't be called robots, they'l be called... mmm... seraphs? I know, we'l call the game 'Seraphic Platter' and every schoolgirl in Japan will play it. Yeh, thats it! ^_^

Drugs are bad, m'kay?

 give me a break. this sounds about as weak as that so-called "Invisibility Cloak" that supposedly "manipulates light" that scientists are working on.

eh? It's really a rather basic concept, you know. Technically hard to implement, but the theory is pretty simple to understand.

Doh! And I thought this to be a political thread :P

the invisibility thing or the mind-controlled robot?

The robot.

working bionics, would be a much more wiser choice, since we don't know much about the inner workings of "automail"
-
Sounds like a step twards Cylons... :nervous:
-
Well, bionics would basically be the same as automail. Just made with technology only and no alchemy.

So MechWarrior is how far away? Figures the Japanese would do something like this. You just know there's about 50 middle-aged Japanese scientist working around the clock in some underground lab to build themselves a Gundam. I can't say I blame them, they have to protect themselves from Godzilla somehow.

:p Didn't Ultraman was developed for that purpose ?, Gundams are just for wars (or rarely for Arena Tournaments), profile photo (1966):

I actually get the reference! OMFG! I actually get the reference!!
Hooray for Dr.Who being played on Sci-Fi channel.
-
Gundams aren't profitable. True they are huge and 'OMGZ! IS A GUNDAM!' but I don't think there are enough emo high-schoolers or newtypes to buy them...
On the other hand, as I said before... Doll sized robots + mind controller + combat + Japanese schoolgirls = ¥€$!

If you build me the reactor, the odds are pretty good I could make a working Stinger for you.

I thought it was just covered in tons of cameras and displayed what the camera was looking at on the opposite side of it.
Am I wrong? I thought it was a cool idea, pretty useless but cool.
-
That's adaptive camoflauge, there's now work on using materials to bend light in certain ways to act more like a Star Trek cloak.
-
Yah, the camera thing was abandoned because there were a series of accidents at the local highschool showers. Electric equipment and moisture don't mix. :D

[Nerd]But we can't do that! Think of the treaty with the Romulans!![/Nerd]
-
Well, since it technically isn't signed for another three centuries or so...
-
 We'll ruin the Star Trek plot by achieving technological advances ahead of time. But then when ST era arrives, everything will happen differently, and ST won't be written that way, so we would never have seen it that way, so we wouldn't have done the same things. So...TIME PARADOOOOOOOX!

but Kirk needs to be born! :(
