Title: RW 2.2 Patch
Post by: IPAndrews on May 31, 2006, 06:11:40 am
Apply to Raider Wars 2.0 running with TBP 3.3 (with 3.3a patch applied)

http://www.bhx.stargame.co.uk/downloads/rw22.exe

Note: This patch is to make RW playable with newer versions of the game engine. Patches for earlier versions of TBP are in this thread:

What does it change, minor bugfixes or something serious ?

A few of the missions wouldn't load when I tried. Storm the Castle is still behaving slightly oddly. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has problems with it.

Has anyone had any problems?
1) Playing through the campaign with this patch installed?
2) Playing missions in the tech room with this patch installed?

Is there any actual place to obtain Raider Wars from anymore? The links on babylon.hard-light.net do not work.

Maybe u schould try this: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,40036.0.html

It's the complete TBP package updated to 3.3a and it also includes the Earth-Minbari war demo and the raider-wars campaign.

The only thing u need to add is a launcher and a FS2_SCP build, this one is has been recommended to me http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/C21052006.zip

cuz this is the last build that still includes the -nobeampierce option.

I uploaded it HERE (http://downloads.hard-light.net/babylon/) last night.  Took more than an hour to do it.

Thank you, Trivial Psychic! That's exactly what I was looking for. I fought for 3 days to get 3.2 & 3.3 base and the 3.3a patch, but then discovered that no actually missions of any kind where there. Now, to hunt the Earth-Mimbari War package, unless you're feeling even more generous and are going to upload that one too! (I'd have your kids if you did!)

Actually, I was thinking of making the necessary modifications to make -nobeampierce a part of the ships themselves and run it with a later version, as was originally intended when -nobeampierce was released.

That will be sorted with TBP 3.4. It's something I'm not happy putting in the RW .vp though. It's not a good thing campaigns overriding core vp tables. So until 3.4 is released it's a case of using a game engine which supports -nobeampierce as a command line argument. Anyone know which is the last stable build to do this?

This is typical of course. I try to update the campaign to work with new builds and it's already out of date. Even if it's not necessarily my fault in this case.  :(

Yeah, I've updated a copy of the 3.3 core weapons.tbl, so far it's working beautifully.

While I was at it, I merged B5-A-Patch-3.3a into core, and then merged the RW vp's. Also doing just fine there.

Any thoughts on HT&L'ing any of the ships or textures for TBP? Given the older builds it started using, it looks like it could use it (though it's still wonderful to play)

You might want to make that updated 3.3a weapons table available to others. Possibly. If that sounds like a good idea just post a message here and file attatch it.

Uploaded as requested along with the Single-Mission pack that was originally with R3.0 as well.  As for the "Kids" offer, I'm already spoken for.  However, if you wish to name one of your kids after me, perhaps as the middle-name or something, that would be acceptable.  :D

I think I can do that once I've verified and tested it thoroughly. (I'm old school, I don't trust implicitly in the fact that having changed them all means that they're all working. :D )

w00t! Very shiney. I see that there's still some room for working on TBP, I'll see what I can do to be useful for it. And for the kids, that's probably a good thing since it would necessitate surgery on my part to acomplish. Somehow though, I didn't think _my_ other half would agree to the birth certificate amendment, but I did try. :D

You're using an old version of the game engine. The patch is designed to work with new versions of the game engine.

Honestly, the problem is what I said. get-object-x works as shown above in newer builds of the game engine and differently in older versions. It's one of the few things I had to update. Whatever version of the game engine he is using, he needs a newer one. I'd recommend one of the new release candidates.

You likely haven't followed Step 5 in the Instellation thread (stickied).  Furthermore, you should check out towards the bottom of the Problems & Solutions section, for problems with newer builds and -nobeampierce.

Hey all, I'm having this same problem (as loneman had).

Problem is I can't figure out how to fix it.  I am running FSO-3.6.7 when I get that error at the start of (actually, while loading) Hell and Back.  I tried switching to the 2005_12_22_p4 build but it didn't help.  I don't really want to bother with making the 2006_01_09 build to work because I already know Loneman was having this problem with it.

I see the solution is to get a newer build, but where do I get that at?  Forgive me, as I'm new around here, but I can;t seem to find anything on SCP's site any newer than the 3.6.7 build.  There are quite a few "Recent Builds," but the latest one is dated Aug. '05, and as far as I know, 367 was released after that (something like Oct. 05 I think).  Where do I find this 3.6.9-RC3 build at?

Also, on a side note, can anyone tell me what CVS builds are?  I keep seeing that at the SCP site, but I can't find anything that says what they are.  Please PM me the answer to this so as not to clutter this thread any.

Thanks,
Cory

I don't think the team mind a little bit of activity here :)

Quote from: my FAQ
Recent\CVS Builds
When one of the coders has a feature he wants tested he'll release a build of the game for people to play with and bug-test. These builds can be found in the recent builds forum on HLP.
In addition to this CVS builds are also posted there on a regular basis. The purpose of the CVS builds is to combine all the work that the coders have done and make sure that it all works well when put together.
In general CVS builds are very stable. Often more so than the official builds. The general response to someone posting a problem with an official build is to tell them to check the most recent CVS build to see if the problem goes away. However on occasion CVS builds can be very unstable if someone has just checked in a piece of code which is incompatible with something else in CVS. For this reason people new to the SCP are generally advised to try out an official build first and only move on to CVS if there is a problem or once they are a little more comfortable with the way the SCP works.
Other recent builds on the other hand make a very poor choice for your first build. This is hardly surprising as they generally released when a coder has a feature he has just finished writing. Often the feature just doesn't work plain and simple and crashes the game the first few tries. For this reason you should steer clear of these at first unless you actively want to help bug-test.

My advice. Go to the SCP forum and in the recent builds subforum you'll find a thread for 3.6.9 RC 6. Grab that. You won't need the patch VPs as they are for FS2. That should solve your problem.

You know, call me old fashioned but maybe it would be easier if the SCP/FSOpen people had a maintained web site with easily identifiable download links? Just a random thought ported straight from my brain to the keyboard with little care or attention.
Title: Re: RW 2.2 Patch
Post by: karajorma on August 09, 2006, 12:33:57 pm
We're in a transition period at the moment. We're moving away from having everyone using CVS builds for every problem to having a stable build which will get it's own bug fixes when problems occur.

Once we've moved over properly the SCP site need only contain links to the official releases to stay upto date. Bearing in mind that at times we could have 2-3 builds posted in a day when everyone was firing on all cylinders adding CVS and test builds to the site would be a real nightmare.

OK, thanks guys.  My problem was I was looking at the forum at SCP's site, not their forum here at HLP.  I just downloaded the 3.6.9 build now, and I'll try it shortly.

None of the download links are working from the TBP main site, or any of the links listed in the forums (as far as I've been able to determine). Is there a current functioning download site for the RW 2.2 patch or any of the other files?
Title: Re: RW 2.2 Patch

It would seem that TBP no long has a subfolder on downloads.hard.light.net.  The server move is likely to blame.  Not sure if/when it'll be restored.  The ball's in the HLP Staff's court on that one.

[Edit]

OK.  I don't seem to have access to the folder right now to make changes to the links, but if you take any download link that starts as http://downloads.hard-light.net/babylon/xxxxxxxxx.exe and change it to http://babylon.hard-light.net/downloads.hard-light.net/xxxxxxxxxx.exe you should be able to download it.

[Edit2]

Never mind.  I've updated the links on the site for both Base and Campaign downloads.

Yes, there is. It's in the download mirrors thread under RW 2.02. IP is calling it both 2.2 and 2.02, but it's the same.
