Just an idea after replaying Starlancer, it would be awsome to start in the hectate/orion and launch out like in that game. Then you would have to jump to the mission area. Might be kinda pointless, but Starlancer really feels different to me because i don't just appear in space surrounded by baddies. ;)
any thoughts? (probs a firm no, too hard to code and remodel)

Do-able already. Simply give the launch bay of the destroyer as your arrival cue, Cut to an in-mission cutscene of another ship of the same class as the player jumping out (With WMCs new limbo state you might even be able to do this with the player) and then set up the rest of the mission while the player is watching the cutscene. :)
Or simply do the the arrival cue thing and then red-alert to the real mission. That's a bit more annoying if you want to change your loadout or something though.

Only minor annoyance is that the Hecate / Orion (less so for HTL) fighterbay looks a bit **** compared to the loveliness of the (in the case of the HTL Orion) exterior of the ship.

The Wing commander guys have something like that working i believe IIRC.....
SL never did release a mission editor did it, Dang that engine had potential.

....which is pretty much the reason Bobbau made his detail box code: to put a high poly hangar interior into WCS capships without a performance hit.
Since then Omniscaper has shown the immense potential of this feature:
