Title: Cosmo's cosmic adventure
Post by: Kosh on June 01, 2006, 08:49:18 am
Does anyone still remember this ultra-retro side scoller?

YES! I remember! Man, that was a great game. Only played the shareware version of it, too cheap to spring for the full version. It's right up there with those great games you barely remember playing, like Jazz Jackrabbit, or Wizard... Something...

there's this game i've been TRYING to find for like, years.  it was a cheesy game, about this fat kid who like, scratched his butt and picked his nose, and he had the baseball cap on with a propellor on the top of it, you know.  he carried a catapault, and he could shoot stuff.

i just remember the game starting with him watching a wrestling match or something, and the commentator was like "and in this corner.  ten thousand, of the roughest, toughest criminals... who ever died!". and he turns to the camera, and he's like 'oooooh. they must be GHOSTS'.

then he'd have to like, get through this maze, and avoid the ghosts.

WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THAT GAME!!! :(
(it started with an "a" i think)

Who doesn't remember Jazz Jackrabbit? I still play it! Jazz 2 was a bit crap though.
Another awesome old platformer is Hocus Pocus, anyone remember that?

I remember Hocus Pocus. Long ago I had the whole set on my 1337 486 (which was obsolete when I had it) and I actually managed to beat it. It took me a while though. The disks were lost ages ago along with that computer. All attempts to locate and download its replacement on the internet (meaning, not shareware and there is no ****ing way I am going to buy a 12 year old game that won't even work without an emulator) have failed.

EDIT: And I really don't understand why gaming companies still hold onto these games. You can still buy Crystal Caves, a late 80's EGA (yes, EGA) platform game for $10, or even the Commander Keen series for $20 on Apogee's website.

My floppies with it on just ended up dying along the way, I think they were a victim of damp. :( I also havn't been able to find a replacement.

I remember some of those old games very well, since I still play them to this day. :D Jazz Jackrabbit was awesome. I replayed that game (and all the addon levels) fairly recently, maybe about a year ago. It's quite hard, in stark contrast to the extremely easy second game.

Some other retro classics I have played recently were the Chex Quest games (probably the most unique story ever :D) and Raptor (I still have my original player file and have kept adding to it over the years; have racked up some $800 million by now).

Like I said earlier, any game that needs emulation to run on Windows 2000/XP is not worth buying. Worth DL'ing and playing, that is a different story.

I used to have the shareware for Cosmo with my old 486, but I never was able to get the full version. Because I can't find the full version on any of the abandonware sites, I may never be able to play it....... :(
