Title: SCP Open for newbies?
Post by: Menzoberranzan on June 02, 2006, 08:51:06 am
Hey guys,

Just got Freespace 2 installed recently and I chanced upon this place and this SCP thingie while looking for the patch lol. I'm wondering, where do I start to get this patch downloaded and installed? I've read about a bunch of builds, launchers and some vb files but I'm still pretty clueless.

Could someone post a little tutorial on how to obtain and install the SCP files to FS2? I saw a torrent link that included the files but it also included the whole game and I don't really want to re-download the CD images lol.

Thanks

3.6.7 is the latest 'stable' I think, you can grab it from the sticky topic '3.6.7 release' in this sub-forum.
imo .vp files are optional, they are either non-hardcored feature support file/eye candy, you can find all-in-one .vp file packs in 'The Freespace Upgrade Project' sub-forum.

Alright thanks for pointing the direction sign :)

Was quite surprised when I saw there was such a large and active FS2 community considering that the game was released all the way back in 1999 lol.

Just forget about 3.6.7. (just keep the Launcher 5.3) Install a latest build and 3.6.8. zeta vps. SCP works hard and normally beta builds and vps are as stable as "Official" ones. (I even remember shield hits weren't rendered in official 3.6.7.). If you have problems with just one very recent build just pick another.
