Hey guys. SOrry if this wastes anyones time. I found this on Gamers Hell and I thought it might be useful.
A freelancer 2 petition was set up on this site. theres a little over 8000 signatures on there now. There are alot of members on HLP taht enjoy freelancer and this may be a chance to get a sequel.

Please sign it.
Thanks, Z

Hey, don't you owe us scans of a biology textbook?
-
Online petitions rarely do anything But I liked Freelancer so I might take a look.
-
I quite enjoyed Freelancer, though I had a few reservations, many of which were dealt with by Mods. Twas a good game, but I'm not sure where a sequel would go actually. It's kind of like having Oblivion 2, what's the purpose of a sequel to an open ended game?
Anyway, I voted for it, you never know, it might be worth it :D

signed!

Um, digital anvil was shutdown... Who would make it?

Analogue Hammer.

Nooo thanks, not another one!

If you don't want it don't play it! What ****ing harm does it do you if there is a freelancer 2?

I heard it'd go round to your house and beat you up.
Or was that the mafia?
-
That was Jay and Silent Bob. :D
Besides I asked him what harm it would do him. So unless he knows he'd get his arse kicked I don't see how it would hurt him :)

No, it's this guy:

It would further degrade the space sim genre, pull more players away from Freespace 2, and offend me by the fact that it DOES NOT USE A JOYSTICK! :p

as much as I love Freelancer, if the original company that made it isn't around then I don't want a sequel.

The story line did end with a "they're gone, but they aren't beaten" thing, which leaves it wide open to a sequel.

The original company was M$........

Nope, Digital Anvil. MS just published the game(s).
I'm tempted to grab Freelancer just for a) not using a joystick (Still think it's a **** idea, but I could play it in work :D) and b) the 2 player mode (IIRC)
-
Actually I've never had much of a problem playing freelancer on a mouse. The game works perfectly well without a joystick.
If I was going to have a go at Freelancer it would be for the ridiculous "The universe is in dire peril but **** off and make some money before we go back to doing anything interesting"
Not to mention the really annoying way that you could do all the resource gathering in one go and then play the campaign straight without having to faff around after every single arc mission.
But all in all I find Freelancer a fun little game that's nice to play once in a while. It's not Freespace but then nothing else is.

Digital Anvil wasn't exactly a company, it was an in house development team, IIRC. If it wasn't then how did M$ manage to close it?

The game was specifically designed so you didn't have to use a joystick, but could still fly effectively. The need for special hardware like joysticks to play it well is one of the reasons the flight sim genre is pretty much dead.

it's actually quite possible to play freelancer with a stylus pen, believe me, i've tried, it's twitchy as all hell, though. :p
-
i liked how freelancer played tbh :)
-
I love Digital Anvils work, 4 seconds later 7 "Signage complete"

yeah starlancer was almost better than Freespace sometimes, it felt more real how you were launching for battleships, and how battleships fired torpedo's at each other like submarines. Also loved how you could see your missiles on the belly of your ships :D
-
yeah i loved the BS fights those side to side torp things those were SWEET
-
I would sign this if i knew what the first game was like..

On the other hand...the battleships were the size of small cruisers, the game was very closed, you could only play it once and that was it, and so forth. I love the game, its dripping with style that FreeSpace always lacked, but its missing some other stuff. The size of the ships they should have fixed.
-
I agree IceFire, but the style of the missions were fantastic and the music went quite nicely with them.
-
I like Starlancer too, but it really needed some help on the mission design side. Sure, some missions were pretty entertaining, but others were just insanely difficult. I got to the last mission and gave up.
Don't even get me started on torpedo chasing...
-
Freelancer was pretty good while it lasted, and pretty good at what it was: an FPS with spaceships.
Chance of a sequal are pretty much zero though, despite how much i'ld like to see one.
-
I was kinda lucky in Starlancer, there were actually plot-splits. You could take out the 'Super weapon' on one of the earlier missions iirc, and it would stay destroyed in the mission where you assault the station.

indeed, Starlancer excelled where freespace lacked, and vice versa, it had a nice feel to the whole story, and the consistant radio chatter and characters kept its story cohesive.
