Well, in my infinite wisdom i managed to pour around... quarter of a litre of coke on my keyboard. what should i do? i'm writing this on a spare keyboard i got, on which the letter T doesnt work too well. i have to press it 5 times harder than other keys so i'll be using D instead...
should i jusd wash dhe keyboard wid wader or? dis isnd a joke.
-
Youre not joking are you???
Toss it out and get a new one! Its not worth the trouble. On the other hand tou could try and clean it but i dont think you will have too much succes.
Oh and in the future keep a plastic something over it.

i'll dry cleaning id, so...

any sort of liquid = bad
i spilt about a tablespoon or so of chicken noodle stuff on my old KB, i managed to kill the keypad, the enter key, a few others.
a new KB is a must.

dammid.
okay, whad aboud repairing de "T" key on dis one? ids really an arsepain do press dad key...
-
see if you can clean it or replace the rubber thinghy..
-
kay. danke :)
-
in my experience, there's no way to fix it, there's a thin sheet of printed plastic with the circuit of the keyboard's workings on it, liquid gets on that, it's dead, trust me on that.
note, i tried using my old dead KB after 6 months (ample time to dry off) still dead.
of course, i may be wrong
-
Keyboards can recover from water fairly well, but any other liquid usually beats it. You don't have anything to lose so clean the keyboard with water and let it dry overnight and then see if it still works. If not, basic keyboards don't luckily cost much.
-
dis wasnd exacdly a basic keyboard. was adverdised as liquid resisdand. i'll dry do wash id, and den i'll ged backdo you all :D
danke for all de help :)
-
i've opened de keyboard, no drace of any liquids gedding do de innards of id. jusd needs cleansing. wheeee :D

Once I did something similar.

Had a much smaller and prettier image, but transparent gif + black/dark background = no no.

i already wrote all the key positions, but thanks anyway :)
(also, take note that i'm not using a keyboard with american simbols or anything, tis got croatian simbols and some letter of the alphabet that english doesnt have.
and i repaired the t key on this one with a bit of pokeage of the foil with the buttons...
-
Dvorak > Qwerty
-
i got qwertzu + croatian symbols. altough dvorak has its merits too :D

this gives you a scientific opritunity to test the dishwasher myth :D

this gives you a scientific opritunity to test the dishwasher myth :D
eh?
not living in america or wherever, cant verifiy :p
-
There's a myth that you can put a keyboard in the dishwasher to clean it. Unfortunately that's likely to damage the rubber keysprings used in most keyboards because dishwashers use very hot water. Model M keyboards have been known to survive it though, as should any other keyboard that uses metal mechanisms. Whether or not it'll do it any good is a different matter.
-
Not to mention the circuitboards, (temp and moisture)
Next time you give your KB Coke, make it the other/good Kind so you can type faster. ;7
-
ROFL!!! This thread is hilarious! Sounds like a nasty cold there Perc ;)
Seriously though, a wet cloth won't cause any trouble at all, you can run a keyboard under the tap as long as you make sure it's properly dry before you plug it back in. Water doesn't hurt electronics unless there's power going though it, you could theoretically, submerge your Motherboard, and it would still work afterwards, though I cannot stress enough that I don't suggest anyone try it ;)
-
but i completely dissassembled the keyboard and dunked the plastic that was coke infested in the bathtub and let zhe water pour. :p
i'd never test the dishwasher stuff too, simply cause of the fact that the innards would be fuxxored thanks to the fact that that keyboard also serves as a USB hub. :D
holes galore. i'll be reassembling it in a few moments.
-
fuxxored
LMAO I dunno why i found it so funny, But i sneezed Capri Sun all over my laptop @ Office.
-
LOL Well, it's a make or break thing really, it's still broken if you don't even try, so there's nothing to lose really ;)
Just remember to make sure it's properly dry before plugging it back in.
-
Smaxxor it with a hammer to make sure its working fine. If it breaks then the chances are it was working. (witch-hunt logic)
-
yeah :D
its still a bit wet, some keys had lil pockets of water on them. no matter, hairdryer to the rescue :D :p
as for the office laptop and sneezing, thats how i got the abominable liquid on the keyboard the first time. by laughing too loud whilst playing quiz on spinchat, with the glass dropping from my hand bouncing of the table and directly to the keyboard :D :p
putting the key back in is an arsepain.
-
Then put them in the keyboard instead.....
Sorry, couldn't help that :p
-
This used to happen to me fairly often years ago, although it always seemed to be the spacebar that got screwed up. IIRC just washing it out and letting it dry for a few days worked on one of them but not the others.
These days I'm just more careful with where I put my drinks; they go at the corner of my desk, where they won't cause any damage even if they spill but are still at arm's length. :p

oh snap
-
beer is much better, it smells good and masculine and reminds you of those pleasant sunday mornings
-
i'd rather pour canadian club on it and then drink it. better than spilling coke at least. and it might even clean the keyboard!
okay, i reassembled it and tried to dry it, but i decided to let it get a bit more dryer overnight.
-
eeet eeeez repaired and works perfectly :D i assembled everything correctly and there are no missing nor extra parts :D all the keys work properly, and whee, i now have two keyboards hooked up to my pc, one to the ps2 port, one to the usb :D :p
yay for my m4d assemblage/deassemblage/reassemblage skillz :p
-
tYPE twice AS qUIcklY Now yOU cAN.
-
yeah :p
the bad part is i started to like the old keyboard...
bljaarg.
i'll probably sell this one to someone in my class.
