Title: A Bug and a question
Post by: Kernal on June 15, 2006, 03:11:05 pm
Well I finally gave in. I decided to swich to OgL. It was a hard decision and I gave it many painful seconds of thought. As I looked at the many pictures and I wonder why arn`t my graphics as fantastic..........

I`m pretty sure I have Ogl somewhere on my comp. So when I Tried it the explosions had boxes around it which gave me a good laugh. What do I need to get rid of this?

Also ever since I started using The latter 3.7.8 builds to the new 3.7.9 builds my game has been repeatly been crashing for no reason. It first happened while I was playing desperation which has many ships in each mission And it was slowing way down so I just thought my comp. couldn`t take it.
Then I started playing much more simplier missions and it still kept on crashing. So I thought it was then D3d so I changed it and it crashed at the end of the mission using ogl. Now what I mean by crash is that my computer totally gives up. It freezes. All I see is my frozen game. Half the time I can fight it to get out of the game. Like for 5 to 10 minutes I`m sitting here and I get messages like "unable to close" or "program not responding". The other  half I have to shut my computer off manually because it doesn`t respond at all! Whats wrong with it?

One more thing what do the Ogl files consist of? I did a search and I`m getting only .dll files.

Sorry if I sound to noobish. ;7

Uh... your OpenGL capabilities are essentialy determined by your graphics card, the  files on your computer are only the drivers that let your computer operate your card. Do you know what graphics card you have? (if you don't go to right click on your desktop, go properties > settings > advanced > adapter and write down what's in the box marked adapter type.

@Kernal
Hello.  It may help to verify that you have the latest drivers for your graphics adapter.  Here are two links for Windows-builds of nVidia Forceware drivers:

Forceware 84.21
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21.html

Forceware 81.98
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_81.98.html

If you need other builds, here is the selection page:

Well there's your problem.  You're trying to run a build that doesn't exist.

If you are using RC2 then make sure that you are using the newest MediaVPs and that you are also using the MediaVP alpha patches available in the RC2 release thread under Recent Builds.
