Title: Rahu name inconsistency
Post by: CP5670 on June 15, 2006, 04:15:38 pm
The Rahu's designation is SSG Rahu, which doesn't make sense since SSG stands for Shivan Sentry Gun. It should actually be SG, which would be in line with GTG and GVG.

This little issue has been around since FS2 was released, but I don't think I have seen it brought up around here before.

It's been brought up on rare occasions.

As long as the Media VPs have different missions anyway, should the Rahu be changed?

Shivan Syphoner of Gas

What I want to know is what TSoup means in the Colossus' Table.

The main Colossus submodel is called souperdouper or something like that. :D

The Rahu's designation is SSG Rahu, which doesn't make sense since SSG stands for Shivan Sentry Gun.

Or does it?

 :nervous:

Well the Belial and Trident use SSG and it fits in with GTSG and GVSG.

Perhaps the Rahu is not all that it seems :p

Ah, so what you mean is it could be just a sentry gun that happens to have an engine and uh, a gas mining thing (a backa, according to the model file). Quite possible. :D

For all we know it could be some sort of interstellar mine field and all Alpha and Beta did was unmine that region of space.

:p

Shivan Super Gasminer or Shivan Sentry Gasminer. My best guess...

Rahu was originally supposed to have a BFRed, not engines, on the back?

That's true, maybe it was a Mjolnir equivalent!

Yeah right... it was just :Volition: having an off moment.

So will it be changed or not?  It makes no difference to anything in the game, and it makes it more internally consistent.  Why NOT change it?

'Cause somebody will complain.

...not that I'm one of them, prefer the Port so it makes little difference to me.

I think the problem with changing it is that it would break compatibility with any existing third party missions that use the Rahu.

I use a modified table set for all my missions though and made this change in there several years ago.

Hmm?  Display name is different from reference name, it shouldn't break ****.  But yes, people will complain... which is why I have my own .vp to fix stuff SCP won't.

Anyone who has a problem with it can use the Alt. NAme feature (which has been there since retail) to change it to SG wiothout breaking compatability.

i have changed the SSG into SG in a prototype ships tbl mod.
We have the same problem with the Superdestroyers, which are designated SD instead of SSD.
Terran freighters are designated GTFR,but Shivan ones are GTFr.
And then the Ma'at,which is designated PVFR!
I know that the Ma'at is old but if 200 Ma'at still serve the GTVA designate them all as PVFR...
Maybe they are time machines?!?

Uh, I seen no shivan freighter with GTFr designation. Mephisto has SFr designation, Asmodeus also has SFr designation.

I meant SFr...the same is for the SD/SSD,exclusively for the Lucifer.

SFr=Shivan Freighter, sounds perfectly fine to me..
Terran freighters are GTFR cause it stands for Galactic Terran Freighter.

Are you kidding?I mean, the word is Freighter, the first letter remains capitol,so we have F.The second, because comes from the same word, becomes r.Drone becomes Dr.  Dreadnought becomes Dn. Corvette becomes Cv. Why Terran and Vasudan freighters are GTFR?

In fact as modders our job is tocorrect these errors...
Change it in the tbl file...

Yeah, I think that's another minor inconsistency. It used to be FR in FS1 and they seemingly changed it to Fr in FS2, but the names of the Terran freighters are all still FR.
