I guess this applies to the modding cadre also

I agree with you Kazan. But we haven't heard what [V]'s next game(s) are. I think when THQ bought Volition, they knew what kind of games Volition is capable of making and it would be a waste of talent if [V]'s next game would be game that are targeted for five year olds.
About THQ only supporting future games (which is more of less THQ saying that they won't support FS2). Is not a suprise to me, cause they don't make any money on FS2. So why should they support FS2.
And let us all hope that [V] doesn't abandon the PC platform.

If you ask me, owning copyrights and making money just gets in the way of progress more than it encourages it these days.

In my eyes, Volition abandoned the PC when THQ bought them & forced them to make Summoner & Red Faction PS2 native...
its so obvious that the PC versions are lacklustre ports...
I actually think its bull that Volition spent 5 months making the PC multiplay system...
Oh... Actually, it seems like they did... If they had spent more time on it, it might have been good...

Rugrats All Growed Up - Nick program
Rocket Power™Extreme Arcade Games - Nick Program
SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Krabby Patty - Nick Program
Bob the Builder™: Can We Fix It? - Now thats just taking the piss, a BBC kids program making a game of it? these guys must take more spacekrack than we do!
Summoner - Now we're talking more of the good stuff please,
Red Faction - ah yes another good game, surely to meet the heap of almost but not quite greats.
Rugrats in Paris - ah come on not another nick program, they already got one rugrats game what they done purchased the entire line of possible rugrat games??!?!!??!.
Totally Angelica Boredom Buster
- guess what another nick program, but even more disturbing another rugrat program 3 so far!
Bass Masters Classics Tournament Edition - (http://lancelot.legendjsm.net/modplace/cgi-bin/ubb/smilies/smilie0049.gif)

i'm inclined to agree, THQ should follow the first rule of business "give the people what they want" and most FS1 & FS2 fans (IF NOT ALL) knows what they want.
-
unfortunatly thq are not all concerned about volition solely, they have all there 5year olds to concern themselves about aswell
-
what? with games for the psx/psone? thq should at least get thier priorities straight
i.e pc first console last.
-
I can't seem to see the site, what's it all about?

link no work.

That topic seems to have bit the big one daddio.

I know, but they seem to cater for those who want to annoy the crap out of their parents so they can get one... play it for a day then it's never used again.
-
I hardley think that deleting one topic on somebody else's forum is an assault on the freedom of speach thing.

which one? what did he/she/it say?
-
One that knows, the THQ guys comments were very poorly stated
THQ aquired Volition because it makes money - you don't fix that which is not broken
-
In the computer world, nothing is ever "broken". It's just "non-updated".
So in a publisher's sense, that which is not broken needs to be updated. Incidentally, that which IS broken, also needs to be updated.

I haven't been there in a long time. I looked at the front page and recognized 3 names. Oh well, I just bumped the Freespace Bible for the hell of it. Shrike, Setekh, Thunder, Kazab, remember that? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/devil.gif)

Me too...
-
basically it was about the poor QUALTIY of all thq games that the majority of the games that they own are for 5 year olds

Hmmmmm, I haven't played many THQ games. Summoner was the exception. Who knows, maybe (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) will convince them to get the rights from Interplay.

Oh crap, all of the Retards that gave squad War a bad name are all flooding into the main FS2 forum like rats off a sinking ship. I thought it was bad before but now 80% of the threads are spam and/or flames. Wave goodbye to the Freespace forum. With the amount of idiocy flooding into it ATM (especially as the retards are all embittered about the closing of their forum), I see no reason why it isn't going to go totally (I mean totally, nothing like we've seen before.) down the Monkeyer, and finish up like the Squad war forum.

Maybe the VBB will go down completely, but it's been a place of mixed progress recently anyway - and it's hardly suprising to see this happening when the SW forum was closed. Fortunately I'm ever the optimist and am glad that we have this place, horray for sanity (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I just happened to save a copy of it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
From Me on the VBB
Until this morning I was had faith in THQ to do the right thing when it came to our beloved Volition. With the closure of the Squad War forum that wasn't shaken much, but the comments Bavarrati made about moving to supporting only future games has shaken my confidence in you.
I recently looked at your list of upcoming games, and quite frankly I don't see anything that will have a snowball's chance in a volcano of selling well, on the console or the PC market. Why? They're too 5 year oldish, I don't know of five year olds that use consoles gaming platforms alone, let alone PC gaming platforms. The only time kids of that age use them is if they have an older sibling that does, the older sibling determines what games are purchased, and they're not going to buy them.
Your line up of PC games is worse than pathetic now that I look at it (http://www.thq.com/Games/index.asp?PlatformID=9) I only see two games that anyone from here would be likely to purchase, Summoner and Red Faction, and that's not just simply because they're from Volition. It's because they are something, they have a storyline and they do someting that nobody has done before (GeoMod in Red Faction).
Volition deserves the company of better than these titles, they are one of the best game programming companies I know of, do not waste them, they can make you millions, heck even billions. You just have to let them make games at their leisure, leave them more breathing room and choice in what they write and how they write it and you will no be disapointed.
What is further disheartening is many of your newer titles I am looking at have no PC support, the computer is Volition's home, they were born there and they rose to greatness there. Consoles quite frankly are inferior gaming devices, but I know you do not care you care about nothing but how much $ you get from us. Well if you continue to have Volition write good games and support the PC you will make large profits, if you discontinue Volition's support of the PC platform you will loose millions and the most dedicated modding cadre ever seen!.
The bottom line is: You give us what we want (great games from V), well give you what you want (Money).
