Must be from a non-english speaking place. Don't suppose you could just type it into a translator and then paste it here, it might be easier to understand
-
no i live in america california hers the problem i been trying to make it work the main problem i got now is when i open the launcher and it says brous for fs2_exe i find one called fs2_open_r-20060125 it put it in aka open it then a mwssige appers that says luncher must be in freespace dir SO PLESE HELP ME I RELY WONT TO PLAY THIS game :sigh:
-
Please....please stop raping the English language so hard. It doesn't deserve it.
-
You need a actual copy of Freespace 2 to use FS Open, you can't just point FS Open to the FS Open exe, and expect it to work.
And if your from a English speaking country, don't rape the language that hard. I come from one where English isn't either of the 2 main languages, and i can spell it more fluently than you. Put some effort to your posts, this is a internet forum, not Counter Strike match where you need to type really fast so you don't get killed.
-
Holy smoking bulemic cowboys, is that english? :shaking:
For reference: The launcher.exe file should be in the same dictionary as the freespace executables.
I.E your folder should look somewhat like this Image of my own folder (http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/8156/first9yx.png)
If that dosn't help you, learn english.
-
california hers the problem
Couldn't be more right...j/k I joined when I was 13 and had better English. Maturity left a lot to be desired, but I spelled it all right.
Anyway, you need to install the game first. From the FS2 disks or the download around here. fs2_open won't run standalone.

How the hell do people not understand that? Do they imagine you can implement a game like FS2 on a freaking executable?
Sidenote: I have no idea when I joined, but at 12, I had better grammar.
-
Yes like the good people said you need to download the CD first, but I thought you were using Shivan's torrent
no i live in america...
Um... as a warning, there's an expectation of proper readable English here, at least from people who speak it. Please, if you can't spell perfectally, that's fine, but if you seriously can't write any better than that (also fine) run it through a spell check program before posting it: it will make it much easier for people to understand you.
-
for flying ***** sake, i come from a non-english speaking country and i could spell and speak better english when i started on the net 2 years ago!
(was 14 at the time...)
-
I just feel like blamming too, :hopping:
As far as i can tell, you have at least the open files,
<slow & patronising tone> DO YOU HAVE THE .VP FILES TOO? </slow & patronising tone>

Wow, much much better. Add in a few periods and you've just made the fastest n00b turn around I've ever seen...
-
It's not downlouding, it's downloading. I don't really think there is any noise involved.
-
im still trying to make it work but it says
error
WEB cursor bitmap not found.
-
What exactly have you installed? Just to be sure.

@superlaxer:
Some directions for you to read, they might help:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html
If you need a download, try the one found here:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39499.0.html
Hope these help.
EDIT: Oh, and BTW to get up to the latest, most stable version after downloading from above:
Get the Launcher from http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/3.6.9-RC2.zip , and then update your engine with the one found here: (RC3)

Umm Jr2 does this mean that if I want better graphics from the game i have to get those updates as well? I have FS open installed because i have the Derelict SCP installed on mi Pc.
Oh and as a side note wouldnt it be better for all the lates patches or builds or whatever to be posted in a Thread of theyr own with the older versions beeing archived somewhere and the newer version introduced to replace the older ones? that way you alwais have only 3 or 4 links thee instead of all the links to all the versions etc posted wich can be a bit confusing you know.
Its just and idea!

Nowdays it's very easy to get FS2 Open up and running, download Shivansps's torrent.
But for a short note: If you want better graphics like those shown off, yes, you do need the MediaVPs. It's generally a good thing to have those as some mods like to make use of them even if you don't run all the extra effects.
I'm pretty sure the moment 3.6.9 comes out we'll have a compiled DL thread.

Apart from mod developers and coders no one should be using recent builds. At the moment we're forced to point people in the direction of recent builds because that's the only solution we have when someone finds a bug in 3.6.7. Hopefully from 3.6.9 we can keep stable and development branches seperate and thus not have these problems.
Of course early adopters will be more than welcome to run the bleeding edge builds but if they find that confusing then perhaps they shouldn't be doing that.

The pack came with another patch, 1.8, that you can DL by going to the same thread. Also, it might be a problem in the MediaVPs. Go down to Recent Builds sub forum, go to any release candidate thread and Dl the two patchs that are there.

o and olot of times the game freezes and it cant remember my name on the login screen and when i start the luncher is says it has to be in the freespace dir and it cant read or something with flag files! o my aim name is (jon super ninja) 1 space between each word contact me and tell me what to do

Check my FAQ's installation guide. That should show you what a proper FS2_Open install should look like.
-

-
Just go ahead send the error report and micro$oft will gladly help you with your Freespace woes. :)
Actually I encountered a problem like that and It went away after I swictched to OpenGL.

Will two branches also mean two separate CVS repositories so the three of us who run FS2_Open on Linux and thus compile CVS builds for ourselves can choose between stable and testing builds?
-
Yes. And there are more than three.

Yep, just grab a checkout as normal but with the tag "fs2_open_3_6_9" and you'll get the 3.6.9 stable branch.
I'm going to use that branch as the base for all of my upcoming code since I need something stable to run with. None of my new changes will hit that branch in CVS, they will go to the unstable branch instead, but it's going to be nice to finally have a stable base to develop on top of so I don't have to worry about broken builds and bugs that are outside of my own new code. :)
And like Goober said, there are more than 3 Linux users of FS2_Open. A LOT more. :D
