Well as mentioned in another topic, the prospects of a new game to possibly replace freespace 2, as it seems less and less likely that another company is going to fill this massive gap in the market for us, we might aswell do the job ourselves, that way we can have it the way we want and not the way a game developer wants. So i have took up the task of learning opengl, heres what i have done so far http://www.themodplace.co.uk/blackdust/downloads/opengl.exe (//"http://www.themodplace.co.uk/blackdust/downloads/opengl.exe") it is not much but it is a start. Keep track of this project at http://www.themodplace.co.uk/blackdust (//"http://www.themodplace.co.uk/blackdust") (the site is still in the works so bare with us) if you want to help email me @ [email protected]

Thats a good start..
now we want;
volume support (real 3D nebulas and beams and explosions!)
hardware T&L support (silly geometry amounts)
RGBA texturing with maybe some proprietry extensions for specularity
Anisotropic support
multitexture and blend support
SIMD support -native please (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, but it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and ***** slap them upside the head.

...?! How bout just make something that works first, then, we can upgrade it like a mofo afterwards... Maybe different depending on people's specs...

volumetic fog?

fractal explosions!

real time volumetric fog? you'd need a super calculator to run the thig... why not particles? easier I think, and a good result if well done
-
Agreed- particle effects are easier, and IMO look just about as cool. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Could Use support for shadows. Need any Beta testing?
-
no beta testing yet, i am still learning opengl, that is approximatly as far as i have got, i have got a little further - texture mapping but it requires setup that may not work on all systems. So when i have the next stable item i will post it, once a engine starts underway then it will stop being publicly released until it is finish.

Watch and add ur imput into what is desided about this game, hear the team chat at #Black-Dust on a random dal.net server near u!

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. If you'd got that done in only a few days, I'm slack-jawwed impressed dude.
-
Hey, neat little thing you got there. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) Keep it up. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
That's okay just thought i'd ask, Works rather Fast on a voodoo3 it turns into a blur those shapes spin so fast, keep learning you're destined for great things if you keep this up.
-
i have done, fog mapping now or summit along them lines anyway i can emulate nebulas like real fog, so it is way more realistic. If you want to keep up with my progress the goto http://www.themodplace.co.uk/blackdust ("http://www.themodplace.co.uk/blackdust") that is the new home of the game, it has no name yet so we call it project Black-Dust. a bit like winblows Whistler that turned out to be XP, shame (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) i like windows whisler anywayz back to the point, that took me about 2 hours of work to get to that stage, it took me 30minutes to actually make the opengl window the objects took about 20 minutes, then making them 3D took a little longer
