LOL Good memories :)
It's a pity Elite 4 is vapourware, never did figure out why Brabham and Bell found a winning formula then abandoned it entirely. I would have at least forgiven them if they bought back the Viper, Asp, Boa, Cobra and Fer de Lance ;)

they spent the last few years filing lawsuits against elite clones and other elite related projects, and never bothered to write any code for elite 4. the whole elite seriese is good idea and ****ty execution.

Well, the original played really well, I think they tried to do too much too soon. Frontier should have kept the Elite ships, and most of the Physics, maybe adding drift. They shouldn't really have got so wrapped up in the 'realism' of the physics and worried about making a good game. If they tried to re-make frontier, taking their time and using a modern system, I think it could be an awesome game, but the fact is, it isn't, it's dull, buggy and difficult to play.

considering the original elite came out in the pre-nintendo days, while most were satisfied by playing pacman or asteroids, it is an incredible game. on the other hand the frontiers games had an incredible graphics engine for the day. support for curved surfaces and color lighting, and in the days before 3d acceleration. had the resolution support been better it woulda been a big boost to the playability of the games. the physics were tolerable, had there been a better interface it coulda worked. iwar2 is a good example of a neutonian interface that works. the frontier hud was limited by the lowness of resolution. aiming was also a pita, aim assist is probibly 100% required in a full neutonian game. i think they were trying to make toe solar systems more realistic and had to implement neutonian for that to work, but the spirit of elite vanished in the process. that said elite 4 was to be like elite. the true problem with the game was more to do with the relationship between bell and barben, who always were involved in leagal battles against eachother. had they worked together on the sequals theyd have also been better. regaurdless you have to give credit to elite for pretty much inventing space sims. without elite there had probibly been no freespace.
