Title: intro cutscene issues
Post by: UnderDealer on June 29, 2006, 10:41:58 am
I searched around for threads about my problem, but couldn't find anything quite like it.  Sorry if I missed it somehow.

When I hit run on the installer, the game immediately minimizes and I can hear the intro cutscene playing.  I can hit Esc to skip the intro, which is fine since I've seen it already, but when the game maximizes the taskbar is visible at the bottom of the screen.  This is irritating.  The other cutscenes play normally, but the taskbar is always visible after I skip the intro movie.

I started with the 1.5c package, and I've since upgraded it to 1.8 and I'm using the 3.6.9 RC3 and DivX6.2.

Moments after my original post I thought to install Xvid.  I just installed OpenAL, but nothing appears to have changed.

ERks, Umm afaik D3D is no longer used, so if you have that option turned on, turn it off/switch to Open GL insted.

Any other tips form SCP mafia?

I had been using OpenGL, but oddly enough I don't have the problem with D3D.  The game runs very slowly in D3D, though.

How about just using the option to disable video displaying?  This isn't suggested as a solution, but as a bypass to the problem.

You can also try this...

Make a backup point from your system... It's not big deal, and if something goes awry, ya'll have a fallback solution anyways.

1. Uninstall any individual codec packages you may or may not have - such as DivX bundle, XVid bundle and what ever you may have installed onto your machine in order to get some random video file to work.

2. Grab and install ffdshow (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm).

It's a good decoding filter and supports most out of many video file formats. You should at least try it, because I for one have never actually had any problems with minimizing or otherwise with cutscene playback.

Generally, I use VLC player for watching videos in themselves, but ffdshow is good to have in case someone prefers Windows Media Player or WinAmp, or if you want to watch Xvid-coded videos through fs2_open engine...  ;) In other words, it works on my computer like the toilet of a train.

I would have said the same but only about CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/)

This sounds suspiciously like an already confirmed minimizing issue with Divx 6. Specifically, I've heard it's the toolbar. You should probably uninstall that.
