Title: Doctor Who - Army Of Ghosts...
Post by: Fineus on July 01, 2006, 02:54:55 pm
Now that is what a Doctor Who episode is all about. I haven't enjoyed the present series as much as Ecclestons - but this part one of two was simply fantastic.

I know we saw a lot of it coming - but damn. Simply great. I can't wait till next week.

Brilliant. The Daleks appear to have passed the Time Lords in some ways now seeing as how the Doctor thought a void ship was impossible.

Definitely the best episode of the series.

Brilliant. The Daleks appear to have passed the Time Lords in some ways now seeing as how the Doctor thought a void ship was impossible.

Not necessarily.

He seems to state anything on the Time Lord level of technology as being impossible.

Like the power source on the Beast's planet.

Though that's probably because the assumption would be that if anyone had that level of technology they'd've either conquered the universe or taken up the reigns after the demise of the Time Lords.

And it's worth noting that the Void Ship opening looked a ****load like the little spider-orb things Cassandra used in The End Of The World.

Recycled effects FTW.

I like how they really get the spirit of the original series, cheap sets and special effects and everything. Its almost as if they were trying!

Oh, it'll be Rose.

But I'm guessing she becomes the Bad Wolf again, then either merges with it permenantly or just lets the energy kill her to keep it from killing the Doctor again.

Because I can't see them killing her off via a shot to the chest (non-sexually), and she kinda has to go out saving the Doctor.

He probably has to boot here into the Tardisy-thing or somesuch, in order to seal / undo the rift between dimensions.

They actually might not.

C'z having a big hole leading between a bunch of dimensions would open up a ton of story possibilities.

They certainly appear to be indulging in a bit of Dr Who fan wish fulfillment with that episode. They'll have to be careful that the show doesn't turn into Earth-invasion-of-the week though.

Doesn't sound too bad. The character didn't seem as crappy as Rose.
See this is the problem I have with the current companion, I dislike Rose quite a lot. I think billie Piper is a pretty good actor and pulls of the part well (surprisingly) but the character of Rose sucks to the max, an annoying and selfish stupid person. Hate hate hate.

I cheered when I found out Rose was being written out of it and I hope for a very messy and painful death.

Oh also, if the TARDIS "saves the day" in the episode on Saturday, that's it. I'm not watching Doctor Who anymore.

i have to say i didn't think rose was that bad, better than any other with the exceptions of Sarah jane smith, Ace and Cpt Jack. I like her because they built up a proper character with a family and whatnot but i do agree that alot of the times she is abit *****y.
I am confused about her leaving wether she will die, because if you read the an interview on the BBC website both her and Russell T davis said that the door would be open for her to come back.

Technically, SG1 lasted 5 whole seasons before they swapped out Jackson for Quinn.

Then another 2 with the original cast once he came back.

Dead in that dimension. But since we're now apparently travelling in time, space and different dimensions I suppose anything is possible.

I took the Daleks to be akin to the Time Lords, in that they'd consolidated themselves across multiple dimensions.

And the Void Ship wasn't so much the Daleks attempt to break through into another dimension, but a plan to make sure that even if they lost the Time War they'd still have ships in the Void ready to pop out at random times in random dimensions with all the technology and resources they'd need to start rebuilding the Dalek Empire.
Title: Re: Doctor Who - Army Of Ghosts...
Post by: starbug on July 05, 2006, 12:59:10 pm
You can't kill of the Daleks because it isn't Dr who without them, its like one of the producers(or someone on the Drwho team) said on the confidential prog, without the daleks it would be like morky without mindy, blackadder without baldrick, some matter how many times they lose there fleets and planets they will come back, Plus as the doc said a void ship rests in the space between dimesions and could survive the end on universe and the begining of a new one. I think these daleks are form our universe because in one trailer the Black dalek seems to take i bit of a hissy fit when rose say's she killed the Emp.

I'm in the US so i haven't watched any of this series yet. I did watch all of series 1 - i find tenant to be a bit better than eccleston, although most others will disagree. I didn't like the direction dr. who took with colin baker onward - less serious, more comedic... i much prefer tom baker style and even early peter davidson to say... the 7th doctor, whatever his name was, sly something. I feel this episode, while still too over the top for me, has some of the elements that made Dr Who cool in the first place.

I wish the cyberman voice didn't sound like such a prick tho.. they were more menacing back in the days when adric was killing them with his gold star...

So they've picked that black technician girl as the replacement for Billie Piper. Erm? Why? Apparently she impressed them with her acting ability during filming. What? Smiling and looking a like a mind controlled zombie? Hardly King-****ing-Lear. With that kind of attitude towards casting I don't know why they didn't just grab someone from the nearest bus stop.

Well, that was pretty ****ing good.

I was starting to expect it was all a big scam. And apparently I know enough Norwegian to have twigged to the name of the Bad Wolf Bay right off.

I guessed the Genesis Ark would be a prison, but I thought Davros would be inside - even after it was made clear these Daleks followed the Emperor.

And it was ****ing nice to see the Black Dalek do the smart thing and use time-travel to retreat.

Excellent episode.

Yeah, I gotta say I was pleased to see a Dalek survive. I kind of appreciate the fact they showed that rather than explain "oh so that's how one got away!" later on..

..Billie Piper pulled out some good solid crying at the end. Glad she made it... sort of. That said - there is one thought - if there's a parellel universe then surely there's a parallel Doctor to go with it. Heck - if they were so inclined they could say the Time Lords won the Time War and were happy and well in that Universe which is why the Daleks didn't try to overthrow that Earth or something.

One other thing... why were the Cybermen fighting alongside the humans from the parallel dimension? I thought they'd be busy trying to Cyberfy them rather than forming an alliance.

For all that though - a great end to the season.

I think it's made clear that the Time Lords are beyond time and space quite a few times.
Also I thought the episode was better than I thought it would be, not happy that Rose and Co. survived though, would have been much better if they had all got killed messily.
The black Dalek pissed off, which means they'll pop back some other time. "LOL I HAEV CLONEZORED TEH DALEKS LOLOLO EXTERMINATE AM I RITE?"
TARDIS didn't save the day, "yay".

In closing, I'll watch the next series, but Catherine Tate can piss off. She's the most unfunny person in the world.
Title: Re: Doctor Who - Army Of Ghosts...
Post by: an0n on July 08, 2006, 02:23:12 pm
Yeah, Tate blows.

But the Cybermen weren't fighting with the humans, they were fighting the Daleks and ignoring the humans. Then the humans started attacking the Daleks too.

Oh and I like the idea that the Black Dalek was black as a way of differentiating which Daleks had time-travel technology onboard and which didn't.

WOW that was epic, the SFX, music, brillant acting British drama at its best! and finally Daleks that can take the piss of the cybermen, i thought it was funny when the BD said that the extermination on the Cybermen was pest control, i think the cybermen fighting with the humans was part of the surrender that the doctor did. Tell you what its the first time ever a cyberman has cried!!!! and the first cyberfemale on screen(with female voice). I do have one question the Bdalek refers to the cybermen as primitive version, i wonder if the Cybermen of our universe will show up.

Edit the sink plungers were used again! that was so funny!! they toasted him!

As the Doctor explained the Daleks had lived in the void while hiding during the time war. The cybermen took 3 years to cross over from Pete's world to Earth. Both were saturated compared to the Doctor, Rose or any of the other humans. Notice that the speed Rose was sucked towards the portal at was much lower (Although the fact that the portal was probably closing at that point probably would have helped).

He'd only travelled through a couple times. He was barely covered in the stuff compared with the Daleks or Cybermen. Besides the portal was starting to close. It's pull on him would have been much less than it was on Rose.
