Title: Frigate Gilgamesh
Post by: Scooby_Doo on July 02, 2006, 02:56:52 pm
I'll be converting this over the next few days...

Flak Frigate Gilgamesh.
It's a 500 meter anti-fighter platform.  Armed with 2 energy flak cannons, 4 tachyons, 2 laser, and 2 particle (last two are subject to change as i returret them in truespace [i've got all of my turret types preassembled, all i need to do is import them and give them the proper turret number]) Should be good for convoy escorts.
I believe the original model as from the Homeworld WC mode (btw did that mod die?)

Wasn't the Gilgamesh a destroyer?

Yes, http://www.wcnews.com/ships/wc2gilgamesh.shtml (http://www.wcnews.com/ships/wc2gilgamesh.shtml)

Made it bigger, removed some of the features (like those pods and rudders), added some new features (redid the bridge, added a lower bridge) and replaced what looks like it's fighter bays with the engines.  To keep it insynch with the other ships, it's too small to be a destroyer so it gets redesignated as frigate.

Postmark.... since the original was 300meters, i think i resize it down to 300m

Well, I'm a canon nazi, so I think it should be a destroyer. So there. :p

It's also an earlier design then the others, so really, its being smaller makes sense.

Those pods were for the anti-matter cannons. They should be back on there :p

Well there is a problem with the pods. the real Gilgamesh had four pods and two antimatter cannons.  I'm also wondering if something from the 2630's would still be in operation well after 2700.  I would imagine massive retrofitting and changing of duties, something like taking a WW1-2 destroyer/cruiser that was designed to take engage other ships and reconfiguring to defend against fighters. I'm guessing if the hull structure is still good then repairing and reorganizing (bringing things up to spec) shouldn't be that difficult (as long as there isn't any massive redesign in the technologies)

I know I used to have the waterloo, but looks like i tossed it away long time ago, probably wasn't happy with it.

you mean like how the Akagi was a heavy cruiser and they converted it to a carrier?

Yes I believe so...  It might have been a devestating destroyer when it first came out, but by now it wouldn't stand up to the newer more massive destroyers.  However if you'd take the anti-cap ship weapons (antimatter) off and replace them with multiple anti-fighter, I'd say you'd have something most enemy fighters would rather avoid.  Add to it, it's small size (a mere 300meters), existing construction sites and simplistic design, they can be built in mass quantities.  Like my Ajax frigate's their not designed to be offensive ships on their own, rather their more like body guards to bigger ships.

Well make two of the pods as anti-matter cannons, and the other two as sensor pods for the cannon targeting ;)

Just to make everyone happy, I'll find a capital ship and do a canon version of it  :)

Ok make that next ten days....  :sigh:

Here ya go:
http://rapidshare.de/files/25700839/gilgamesh.rar.html (http://rapidshare.de/files/25700839/gilgamesh.rar.html)

Same as with the last few single ship mods, you'll need the additional.vp from the scooby1.rar file.  The show off mission should work without any additional ships, whereas the run mission needs both packs (alternatively you can go in FRED and remove the ships from the player ship selection).
