Hi everybody, I've been lurking around here for a month and I downloaded ShivanSPS's Complete FS2 SPC 1.5c package and I played a few missions and decided to see if I could add a modded Medusa to the DerelictSPC mod. I modded the ship and copy-pasted it in the ships.tbl file and added it to Player ship precedence, added it to the available ships in the missions and stuff but it still don't work! help?

Here are all the files I modified with Notepad.

I've been modding Star Wars JK3 and Medal of Honor AA for years but this is a whole new ballpark for me, so forgive me if I seem idiotic. Whats a modular ships.tbl? :shaking: :D BTW, you forgot to warn me about Carl... *shows him torn off arm* I forgot to bring my lunch today..... Lol.

Modular ships tables allow you to add or replace ship data without changing the entire ships table. Basically it's the same thing as the entry you inserted into the ships.tble but in it's own file with a couple of extra tags.
You should be able to find the information you need here (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Ships.tbl) and here (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Modular_Tables). My FAQ does cover the basics of modding but since I don't mod much these days I've not be able to include much FS2_Open info in it. The wiki is much better for anything beyond a general introduction which is why I've linked you to it.

Ah! So thats what they are. Hmmmm, I'll have to practice with it. For now though, I'm going to finish the campaign (if I can, without it locking up too much) before I mod it ..... much. *evil grin*
-
Will that enable more ships than normal table editing or does the same numer limit apply for total entries?
-
Same limits

Ok, this problem is solved.
I was using Notepad to edit the .fs2 files, when I should have used FRED.
*head-thwack*

Well... You can use notepad to edit the .fs2 files but then again those files have very strict parsing so you have to know exactly what you are doing.

you have to know exactly what you are doing.
Which, ... I don't. :)
