I'm making a mission (not Pathways. :p) and I'm trying to replace the orion nameplate, but every time I do I get "texture could not be found." Anyone have any suggestions?
-
Rename the texture to something simple (e.g. the name of the ship) so you can be sure you're not making a spelling mistake, and make sure you're using duplicate model.
-
Be sure you're not using duplicate model; it's slower and more wasteful than the other way. See the wiki page for details and help.

i actually looked at the Wiki, but I just got information on what texture replacement is and what the different options DO.

Copy+paste. :)
[EDIT] Oh, right. I'm using the latest CVS FRED build.

For duplicating you intend a POF file with the same name?I opened the Hecate POF(capital2t-01)and saved it as capital2t-02.I modified the colour of some textures but when I open the new POF with the Construction Suite the modified textures are shown in white(so I think they're considered as non-existant).

Well actually not exactly that way... See http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Texture_Replacement

That's what I read, i got diddly squat!

Did the other one get fixed then?
-
Yup. Been fixed for a couple of months now.

I've mantised this as a bug, because even though i was finally able to get the error out of the way, FRED crashed every time.

So, how did you manage to get the texture in there in the first place? I've got a nice little .pcx file lined up, but i've no idea where to place is so FRED picks up on the dang thing.
-
What do you mean where to place it? On the ship or in the file structure? If it's in the file structure, it goes in data\maps. If it's on the ship, use modelview to find out.
BTW, FRED won't pick up on it in the sense of a drop down menu or anything like that. You need to type in the filename (without the extension) manually.
Apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know, but I'm not really sure where you're having problems.
-
So,let's check if I understood what do you mean.
A pcx image I want to insert in a ship needs to be inserted manually,Ok?
But if digit the filename I can't write capitol letters. In my case, the Capital4Ar will be capital4ar,and FRED2_Open doesn't find it.I tried with the data/maps and the MOD folder, but it didn't work.
A little question:where I can find the word style of nameplates, like Colony Wars?
Is it for Microsoft Word or something...?
If not,I should make nameplates manually.Where can I find an alphabet list for check if I write correctly?
