Title: Anybody know Flash?
Post by: Sandwich on July 10, 2006, 04:02:11 am
I'm trying to take this Flash image fader (http://www.whatdoiknow.org/archives/001629.shtml) thing and overlay it with 2 transparent PNGs, so that the PNGs show on "top", and the images fade from one to the next beneath the PNGs. I'm using Flash MX 2004.

Now, here's what I have working so far (http://www.kkcj.org/test/). The Flash loads up the two overlaid PNGs, but then instead of fading through the images beneath the PNGs, it replaces the PNGs with the slideshow of images.

I do have the 2 PNGs in a seperate layer, above the slideshow layer. I assume that somewhere in the ActionScript it's saying to replace everything instead of constrain itself to its own layer (or something like that). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. :)

Meh @ Bobbau, Ok
heres a bit more help for ya.
1  -in a new movie, add another layer (making 2 in total:) )
2  -make both image files into instances.
3a-Use the timeline to synchronise the fades (via motion tweening)
3b-Make seperate movie clips of each individual fade, and then splice onto main scene timeline in alternate layers.

You got the source .fla you're working on?

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have to ask... did you even look at the link I posted? Or read my post, for that matter? I said there I added the PNGs into a seperate layer above the image layer. And look at the link - that's where I get the .fla, and it references external JPGs via an XML file, so there's no motion tweening to be done. Go have a look at it.

Whats your knowledge like at XML and flash in general?

yeah that's like, a "pre-made" fader, you just insert the images, and you don't have to play around in Flash with motion tweens, etc.

i don't have time to look at it right now, Sandwich, but i will soon :)

Thanks Stealth.

Col. Dekker: I have extensive HTML knowledge, so XML isn't much of a stretch to understand what's already there. As for Flash, the main time I dabbled in it was when Flash 4 was just out, I did a bday card for my dad with a lot of motion tweening and text morphing between the slides. Haven't really touched it since; all that ActionScript in the .fla file is above my head.

Nevermind, we just ended up buying SlideShowPro (http://www.slideshowpro.net/) and using the watermark feature to overlay the image onto the fading backgrounds. Looks pretty neat, I must say. http://www.kkcj.org/
