Hi all,
since I´m new to this forum, but not so new at FS2_open I´ve got a question.
I recently installed FS2 and the latest VP Pack (3.6.8 zeta) and I´ve been wondering?
I tested some things in a self made mission and noticed that the shine effect (mirror effect in glasses and on some ships eg. Triton transporter) is missing!
But as soon as I start the campaign, everything is just fine (mirror effect on Myrmidon glass & Triton transporter is excelent eg. Training mission 2!).
So I assume that this is a FRED2 problem or not (use fred2_open_r_KARA_20060517.exe and same fs2_open.exe, launcher 5.4)?
Oh and I start the game in openGL since D3D doesn´t work on this release (earlier releases did work eg. 3.6.5 but shine maps did´t work at all!!!)

Are you using any mods? Are you running the mission, noticing the lack of shinemaps and then noticing them come back in the campaign mission without quiting FS2 in between?

No I don´t use any mods. I run my self made mission and the mirror effect is gone (glasses, Triton transporter) and in the tech room the mirror effect is also gone (was there before!!!).
But as soon as I run the campaign everything is ok!
Maybe I need something for FRED2_open, like I said only on self made missions, do I need more background (Idon´t think thats the problem)?
The only thing is I changed some minor things in weapon.tbl, but this does also affect the campaign, right?

Hang on a sec. This is an env maps thing not shine maps right? Check by disabling the environment maps from the launcher and seeing if they vanish for both campaign and your own missions.
If that's the case then yes it is dependant on the background you've added in your missions.

So it is solved, thanks a lot, so env. maps no shine ok!!!
Well I had an other question.
In my mission I let let´s say 40+ Ulysses fighter attac a Deimos cruiser, and as soon they come in primary weapon range and fire the lasers the reflections from the sun (light source, metal look, eh is this the shine map???) in the Deimos cruiser vanish.
Is this because there are too many fighters shooting at one target (too much lighting from laseres on Deimos hull)
Seems to me like that, is this a known issue or something else.

Env map = short for Environment Map. So basically what they are showing is reflections of the envirnonment they are in. If you have a black background there is nothing to reflect.
Shine maps on the other hand are reflecting the lighting around them. Since there must be light for you to see something you'll always be getting an effect from them.
Not certain about what's causing your other problem though.
BSG is moving along reasonably nicely BTW :) As for my post count, I did say back on Game Warden that I had a reputation :)
