Okay, this is very noobish, but I've been away from this project for awhile and had to reinstall everything. I'm trying to get the Port to run (wanna start with #1 and work my way through the storyline), but it refuses to work. All I get when I run it is a strange picture of a briefing room. I can't close FS2Open, I can only do so by restarting the computer.
I installed FS2, grabbed redmenace's latest CVS build at the time, Launcher version 5.4, I grabbed the FSPort 3.0.3 VPs (including all the music, voice, and other goodies) and put them in their own folder (named FSPort), ripped the movies off the FS1 discs and put those in the FS2 folder (want the full experience).
I point the Launcher to the exe I wanna use (standard, unoptimized), point the MOD tab to the VP folder (FSPort), and configure video/audio. But I get the above. There's gotta be something simple I'm not doing.

There was a freezing bug that made its way into FSO at one point. Try the very most recent build.

I tried redmenace's 7/10 CVS build, but still the same problem. To be certain, I tried also running the 3.6.8 Zeta MediaVP build with alphapatch and advalphapatch. It also choke on the initial "SCP" load screen, just like with the Port. I've tried adjusting sound and video options, but nothing works.

Are you running in OpenGL? If not, you should do so; D3D has been pretty bugy as there is no one left to program/support it.

Don't forget to check for your version of OpenAL for sound.

Are you running in OpenGL?
Yep. Still chokin'.
Don't forget to check for your version of OpenAL for sound.
I tried reinstalling OpenAL 1.1, but it didn't help.
Keep those suggestions coming. I think I'll post this over at the FreeSpace Upgrade Project Forum, as well.

Figured it out. It was my firewall popping up a confirmation before it would allow the game to run. Had to start it in a window, so I could see the security message and tell it everything was fine. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
